Bennett Lee Sherrer was born on September 20, 1922 in Snow to Robert L. and Delanie (Robison) Sherrer. He passed from this life on September 25, 2011 in Omaha, NE, while visiting his family there to celebrate his 89th birthday. He was a graduate of Antlers High School, Eastern Oklahoma A&M College, and Oklahoma State University. During World War II he served as a radiology technician at an Army Air Corp Hospital in San Angelo, TX. Much of his life was spent in Ada where he was manager of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service.

New lake record set at Broken Bow Lake

A new lake record has been set at Broken Bow Lake. Ivan Kroger, of Ralston, caught a 8.3 lb fish belonging to the walleye family on September 29, 2011 in an undisclosed area of the lake while fishing with Jim Raglan.

Kroger was equip with a Shimano reel and Lews rod using a spinning rod and reel method with hard baits/plugs. This record breaking fish was 28” long, had a girth of 16.5” and was weighed dead/thawed at Frontier General Store.

The middle of August, I realized that a fibrotic cyst I had been watching through mammograms each year had started growing larger. I felt an urgency to find out--I knew if something was growing, something had to be done as quickly as possible. It was time for my yearly mammogram, so I arranged for one on August 31. The mammogram did show the cyst was larger so as soon as I got the report back, I made an appointment with the doctor for Thursday, September 15.

New Dist. 1 Barn opens

On Friday, October 14, 2011 the New District #1 County Barn was officially open and celebrated with an Open House which lasted from 11:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. The new barn is 4,800 square feet located at 400 S.W. 8th Street in Antlers.

Many individuals throughout the world have have been impacted by breast cancer either directly or through a friend or family member. For some the day that they heard those horrifying words are permanently etched into their brains, but for others it is nothing more than a blur of emotions and they can remember nothing more. That is what I remember. The day that my mother sat me and my brother down and told us she had been diagnosed with cancer is a day I will never forget, but also one that I can’t really remember details.

Ronald Sappington harvested this 8 point buck which had a weight of 125 lbs, on Pushmataha/Atoka County Line Road in Pushmataha County.
