Viola (Crickette) Bell Baker, 68, of Antlers, passed from this life on December 11, 2011 in Tulsa. She was born November 11, 1943 in Ft. Worth, TX. She enjoyed spending time with her family more than anything! She loved unconditionally and was the glue that held her family together. She watched Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune daily. She was smarter than most of the contestants and would shout out the answers often before they did. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lorene Bell, her father, V.C. Bell, her sisters: Rebecca Benton and Brenda Leslie.
Wilson Taylor, Sr. was born December 1, 1928 in Corinne to John and Ida (Wesley) Taylor. He passed from this life December 11, 2011 in Goodwater Community at the age of 83. Wilson married Deloris in 1951 in Honeygrove, TX., and they were married for 53 years until her passing. He was a member of Goodwater United Methodist Church. He enjoyed 4-wheeler riding, fishing, hunting, watching his kids & grandkids play kickball, horse shoes, and any other outside games. Mostly, he enjoyed just spending time with his family & friends.
Solomon Billy was born on July 28, 1931, in Corinne to Wesley Billy and Nellie Charlie Billy. He passed from this life on December 6, 2011 in Plano, TX, at the age of 80. Sol enjoyed so much, getting up early and cooking breakfast for himself, and whoever was up with him, eat, drink coffee, and talk about news, the garden, or anything in between. He would many times go out on the front porch and sit and drink coffee and watch the goings on.
Jody Brent McCarty was born June 2, 1985 in McAlester to Jimmy Dwayne and Janet Lynn (Butts) McCarty. He passed from this life December 11, 2011 in Ravia at the age of 26. Jody graduated from OSU-Okmulgee with an Associates Degree in Highline Construction with honors. He married Jessica Ann Fluhmann on July 21, 2007 in San Angelo, TX. Jody had many interests & hobbies. He enjoyed watching westerns, reading tool magazines, playing with his dogs, hunting, fishing, & camping. He loved riding horses, and in his younger years, enjoyed roping.
Edward L. Morse was born November 12, 1928 in Rattan to Harry and Eva (Harper) Morse. He passed from this life December 9, 2011 in Rattan at the age of 83. Edward married Alma Ruth Davis on July 28, 1950 in Texarkana, AR. They were married 61 years. Edward worked as a livestock trader most of his life. He enjoyed fishing horseback, 4-wheelers, camping, playing dominoes, pitch, and working cattle. Most of all Edward enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, telling stories.
On Monday, December 12, 2011 the Pushmataha Hospital Auxiliary donated $10,000 to the Pushmatah Hospital to help cover the cost of new monitors for the ER. The Pushmataha Medical Foundation also donated $10,000 to the cause. Pictured from right to left are Mary Virden, Betty Cole, Steven Poe and Linda St. Clair.
Residents of Finley have been going through the steps required to appeal the United States Postal Services closure of the Finley Post Office from taking place the last several months. Residents that go to the Finley Post Office to retrieve their mail, or do postal business, will be rerouted through the Clayton Post Office if the Finley Post is indeed closed.
Over the weekend (Dec. 10) the Lady Cats participated in the Choctaw Nation Invitational Tournament in Talihina. The Lady Cats beat Central Salisa in the Semi-finals to take on Talihina in the final game of the tournament. The Lady Cats walked away from the Tournament with Runner up and had three of their players named to the All Tournament Team. They were aylor Tedder, Railey Gardner and Hailey Garman.
Over the weekend (Dec. 10th) the Bearcats Varsity Basketball team participated in the Choctaw Nation Invitational Basketball Tournament in Talihina. Bryce Martin, of the Bearcats, was named to the All Tournemant Team.
