Virden Retires as Antlers Schools Superintendent

Antlers Public School Systems Superintendent, Mark Virden, has officially announced his retirement. His last official day will be on June 30, 2011.

Mr. Virden has been a part of the Antlers School System for the past 31 years, his entire teaching career. The first 19 years were spend as the high school Science Teacher. Mr. Virden then was the High School Principle for 6 years, and finished off his career as the Superintendent of Schools for the last 6 years.

Mr. Virden said that it has been a very good 31 years and that he is going to miss the students and faculty very much.

Kirk Named Employee of the Year

In celebration of National Hospital Week (May 9th-13th), the Pushmataha County Hospital held a cookout on Friday May 13th for its deserving employees. Also on Friday, the Employee of the Year was named. Pictured above with Stephen Poe, CFO/CPA; is Pam Kirk. Pam has been employed at the hospital for 33 years and currently is the Director of the Labratory. Pam received this great honor for being a dedicated, hard working, skilled and loyal employee of the hospital.

Buchanan Places 7th at State Golf Tournament

On May 9th & 10th, 2011, Treg Buchanan, a Senior at Antlers High School, participated at the OSSAA State Golf Tournament which was held at the Cimeron Trails Golf Course in Perkin. It was a 54 hole tournament which lasted for two days.

Treg shot a 76 and a 73 on opening day and got a 83 on the second day of the Tournament. When all the scores were tallied, Treg finished tied for 7th place out of a total of 73 high school golfers in Class 3A.

KTC Represents at State Level

Kiamichi Technology Center – Atoka Campus students won numerous regional contests, qualifying them for the State SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Competition. The State SkillsUSA Conference was held in Tulsa on May 1st -3rd.

Antlers Senior to Play in All-Star Game

Tyler Spear, a Senior at Antlers High School, has been selected by area coaches to play on the South team in the 38th Annual All Star Classic Baseball Tournament.

The game will be played May 28th at 2:00 p.m. in Wilburton. Tyler is the son of Kenny & Ronda Spear, grandson of Betty and the late "Skeet" Gregg of Antlers, Billy and Linda Burton of Hugo, and Dale Coffman of Garvin.

Fire Safety Program Presented in Moyers & Rattan

The Kids Fire Safety program was presented at Rattan and Moyers Public Schools this week, teaching students fire safety at home.

Elementary students went through a 34 foot mobile trailer that was set up much like their own homes, they were taught about fire hazards in each area. The students also got to escape out a bedroom window and climb down a ladder in the midst of simulated smoke.

Christine Adele Haag

Christine Adele Haag was born May 4, 1913 in Cleveland, OH.; to Harry C. Green and Lula M. (Paddock) Greene. She passed from this life May 13, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 98. Christine married Willard Russell Haag November 4, 1940 in Lakewood, OH.; after two weeks of courtship and together they raised one daughter. They moved to this area to be near their family. Christine loved music and playing the piano. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Christine was preceded in death by her parents:  Harry & Lula Greene.

Noah Wyatt Clark-Potter

Noah Wyatt Clark-Potter went to be with the Lord on May 10, 2011 in Talihina. He was born to Ronald Robert Potter V and Gabriellea Meshelle Clark.
