On Friday night, May 6, 2011 residents of Pushmataha County gathered together at the 2011 American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Pushmataha County at the Antlers Bearcats Football Stadium. This years Relay held a much different ambiance as it felt much less chaotic than the previous years and it returned once again to the great outdoors where it belongs.
On Friday, May 6, 2011 the new acting Mayor of Antlers, Mike Burrage, did his first official task in this position. Mayor Burrage declared the week of May 9th to May 15th to be Hospital Week in Antlers, to correlate with National Hospital Week that runs during the same week.
The Rattan Rams also headed to the State Tournament for Class A Baseball in Oklahoma City on Thursday, May 5, 2011. Previous to State they had won their Regional Tournament on their home field by beating out three other teams.
On Tuesday, May 3, 2011 the Rattan High School Lady Rams Softball Team headed for the Class 3A State Tournament in Oklahoma City.
Not only did they win the Regional Tournament the week before but there were recognized not only for their athletic abilities but also for their academic success as well. At the State Tournament they were presented the Academic Achievement Award for having the highest GPA (grade point average) in Class 3A play. The team had an overall GPA of 3.888 for the year.
Roger Mills Neese, 77, of Sayre passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2011 in Antlers. Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Oddfellows Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mills & Coffey Funeral Home of Antlers.
JaniceÂ Kay Bell, 68, of Clayton passed away Thursday, April 28, 2011 at her residence. Memorial services were held at the Clayton Funeral Home Chapel at 2:00 pm on Monday, May 2, 2011 with Mike Smith officiating. Interment followed at Clayton Old Town Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Clayton Funeral Home of Clayton.
Beverly Jean Worley, 78, of Des Moines, IA passed from this life on Monday, April 25, 2011 in Antlers. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at the Mills & Coffey Chapel in Antlers. Interment followed at Broken Bow City Cemetery in Broken Bow. Arrangements entrusted to Mills& Coffey Funeral Home in Antlers.
Hulen Randolph Crittenden, 92, of Clayton, passed away Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in Davis. Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Stanley Cemetery in Stanley with Johnny Beckmon officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Clayton Funeral Home in Clayton.
Brandon Ray Winship was born May 5, 1986 in Ada to Jackie Leroy and Sherry Rae (Winship) Cook. He passed from this life May 2, 2011 in Rattan at the age of 24. Gator grew up in Bonham, TX., and had lived in the Rattan area for the past seven years. He was of the Baptist faith, and he enjoyed riding horses, hunting, and helping Nana in the kennel. Most of all, Gator loved spending time with his family and friends.
