I read an interesting article in a golf industry magazine the other day. The article was dealing with the fact that the game of golf has not grown since 2000.
The two main reasons are (1) time to play the game and (2) frustration with the game.
Frustration centers on the fact that most people can't break 100 on a par 72 course, that the came is too tough and therefore no fun.
The other reason, time, is associated with the course. Too many people looking for golf balls. Trying to negotiate a course that is too long or the greens are too fast or too hard to read.
July 20th
Claudia Ellen VanVoast Boyd passed from this life on July 14, 2011 at her home in Combine, TX. She lost a well fought battle with cancer at the age of 62. Claudia is survived by her husband of 34 years, Wallace Boyd, her mother Vivan VanVoast, daughter Amy Hurst and son Loren Boyd. The memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 18, 2011 at Our Merciful Savior Episcopal Church in Kaufman, TX. In liew of flowers, donations should be made to the Crandall Library in memory of Claudia Boyd. She was greatly loved. A memorial service will also be held at 2:00 p.m.
Jerry Herbert LaMothe was born March 19, 1936 in Newberry, MI., to George and Fern Ann (St. John) LaMothe. He passed from this life July 17, 2011, at the age of 75. Jerry served his country in the United States Army, 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean Conflict. He married Lenora Stephens in California and together, they raised two children. Jerry worked as a foreman and supervisor on numerous construction jobs. When Jerry wasn’t working, he was enjoying his favorite sport of hunting. He also loved spending time with his family & friends.
On Sunday, July 17, 2011 at approximately 10:06 p.m., a 1991 Chevy truck being driven by Luke R. Roberts, a 20 year-old white make from Albion, struck a pedestrian while attempting to yield to an emergency vehicle about 1 mile north and 1 mile east of Clayton on SH2 in Pushmataha County.
According to Trooper reports, the ‘91 Chevy was traveling northbound and the pedestrian was also walking northbound. The vehicle moved to the right while and hit James Guy Exon, a 61 year-old white male from Clayton, the pedestrian.

As drought conditions continue to worsen across Oklahoma, Governor Mary Fallin has issued an Executive Proclamation banning outdoor burning for much of the state. Oklahoma Forestry Services, a division of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, recommended the ban based upon an analysis of fire activity, wildland fuel conditions and the predicted continued drought as criteria for recommending the ban.

A graduate of Antlers High School recently participated in The 2011 Native All-Star Game which was played on Saturday, July 9, 2011 in Denton, TX. Colton Maynard, a 2011 graduate of Antlers High School, suited up to be a member of the Red Hawks team.

Twenty-four members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club competed in their annual Noon to Noon Bass Tournament held on July 16 and 17. The tournament was held on McGee Creek Lake and started at 12:00 noon on Saturday and ended at 12:00 noon on Sunday. A weigh-in was held at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday night.
Orginizers have been working hard for a couple of months now to get the word out and getting guys signed up to play in High School Alumni Football games. This proves to be an amazing opportunity former athletes to get to play full contact football again, as well as represent tradition, comradery, and their hometown.Â
The games have been postponed until the fall to give the teams a little more time to get signed up and for the games to build some traction, and excitement. Over all 64 guys around the area have signed up.Â
Many of us might not have heard that since 2008Â a Canadian oil company, TransCanada, has been awaiting approval to start construction on an extension project called the Keystone XL Oil Pipeline. This pipeline would extend the companies existing Keystone Pipeline, which currently runs from Alberta, Canada to Cushing, OK, to supply oil to others in Oklahoma and ultimately Port Arthur, TX.

The Oklahoma Rodeo Pageants Council, Inc., host of the Miss Rodeo Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant, has recently announced their upcoming pageant in Oklahoma City. The pageant will be held July 20 through July 23, 2011 and two girls from Rattan will take part in t he pageant representing the 2011 Hugo PRCA Rodeo.
