Brandon Ray Winship

Brandon Ray Winship was born May 5, 1986 in Ada to Jackie Leroy and Sherry Rae (Winship) Cook. He passed from this life May 2, 2011 in Rattan at the age of 24. Gator grew up in Bonham, TX., and had lived in the Rattan area for the past seven years. He was of the Baptist faith, and he enjoyed riding horses, hunting, and helping Nana in the kennel. Most of all, Gator loved spending time with his family and friends.

Donald Ray Felihkatubbee

Donald Ray Felihkatubbee was born May 16, 1940 in Talihina to Osborn and Etta Katherine (Flowers) Felihkatubbee. He passed from this life on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 70. Donnie served his country in the United States Army. He lived in Palo Alto, CA., for 12 years. Donnie worked on classified projects under contract for Hewlett-Packard for the U.S. government. He was of the Pentecostal faith. Donnie’s passion was music. He was a talented musician and played several different instruments, specifically the electric and acoustic guitar.

Vicki Bell Savage

Vicki Bell Savage was born December 30, 1946 in Copeville, TX., to Walter Levi and Jessie Henrietta (Jones) Wester. She passed from this life on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 64. Vicki married Clarence Troy Savage on May 6, 1965 in Gilliam, AR. They have lived in this community for 35 years and together, have raised five children. Vicki’s legacy lives on through her four daughters, one son, ten grandchildren and two greats. Vicki was a member of Finley Baptist Church and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She touched many lives.

Sammie Louise (Tipton) Edmondson

May 4, 2011

Sammie Louise (Tipton) Edmondson was born on March 31, 1934 in Comanche to the late Mr. Jess G. Tipton and Mrs. Minnie Roberta (Scott) Tipton. She passed from this life on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in Rattan at the age of 77. Sammie was raised at Mountain Home attending school there until her high school years where she graduated from Ringling High School. She married Mr. Melvin “Red” Rhea Edmondson February 4, 1952 at Ft. Hood, TX. They initially made their home in Ringling before they moved to Alaska. Sammie always worked very hard.

Lady Rams Off to State Play

The Rattan High School Girls Softball Team is headed to the Class 3A State Tournament in Oklahoma City this Tuesday, May 3, 2011 after winning their Regional Tournament last Thursday.  They will be recognized not only for their athletic ability but also for their academic success as well.  They will be presented the Academic Achievement Award for having the highest GPA in Class 3A.  The team has earned an overall GPA of 3.888 this year.  The Lady Rams have shown how important it is to maintain success both on and off the field. 

Antlers Mayor Resigns

As of May 15, 2011 Antlers City Mayor Brent Franks will have officially resigned from the position of Mayor.  Not an act that he wanted to do but due to the fact that he is relocating outside of city limits, state law says that he must resign from the position because all City Council must live inside city limits.  

During the meeting Mayor Franks was presented with a plaque and commended for his many years of dedicated work and devotion to the City of Antlers.  He will be greatly missed but will still be around town.

Relay For Life Friday, May 6

We all remember our first Relay for Life event, and if not you need to attend one. We found a community that welcomed all. We found a place where we could celebrate the lives of people who had survived cancer and remember those we had lost. At Relay we found friendship, healing and empowerment. 

Dogs Causing Problems in Antlers

On Monday, May 2, 2011 during the Antlers City Council Meeting there was a full house as many residents of Antlers came to show that they were fed up with the stray dogs and dogs who's owners allow to run loose around town. One woman in attendance had been bitten by a Pitt Bull while walking down the street.

Wet Roadways Cause Fatality

On Monday, May 2, 2011 between the hours of 5:00 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. a fatality collision occurred on State Highway 3 approximately 2 miles east of Rattan.

A black 2005 Chevrolet Impala being driven by Brandon Ray Winship, a 24 year-old american indian from Rattan, was traveling west on HWY. 3 when he departed the roadway to the right and struck the guardrail causing the vehicle to overturn once and come to rest beside a small creek.  The driver was partially ejected through the passenger-side window.

Rams Headed to State

The Rattan Rams are headed to the Class A State Baseball Tournament in Oklahoma City on Thursday, May 5.   They won their Regional Tournament at Rattan this past Thursday and Friday beating out three other teams.  Congratulations!
