Choctaw Nation HeadStart Receives Royal Mail

We all had trouble not getting swept up in the buzz and media frenzy that surrounded the nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton on April 29, 2011, and many Americans woke up in the middle of the night to be apart of this once in a lifetime event.

The children from the Choctaw Nation HeadStart may not have been up watching the extravagant wedding but they did decide not to let the event go unnoticed. They sent the couple many warm wishes and the best of luck in the form of letters and artwork.

Local Mailboxes being blown up

The Postmaster of the Antlers Post Office has informed us that on Thursday, November 3, 2011 the Postal Inspection Agency discovered a total of 5 mailboxes that had been blown up in the Antlers' area. Two of the mailboxes were located on North Hall Road and the other three were on Airport Road. Two of the mailboxes had mail in them at the time of the explosion leaving burnt reminisces of the resident’s mail.

Moyers Tigers open basketball season with double loss

The Moyers Tigers opened a much anticipated Basketball Season on Tuesday, November 1.    After an amazing rendition of the National Anthem sung by Taylor Billy, the Lady Tigers took to the court.

Voters to decide excise tax

On Monday, November 7, 2011 the City of Antlers Council members gathered for their monthly meeting at the Antlers City Hall. The meeting began at 5:00 p.m. by being called to order, a quorum was established and invocation was given.

Four new storm sirens added in city limits of Antlers

The City of Antlers has received a Hazard Mitigation Grant in the amount of $23,775.00 from the Oklahoma Department of Emergancy Management for the purchase of 4 storm sirens. This will make a total of 6 sirens that Antlers will have to warn the public inside the City Limits of an approaching Tornado or other Severe Weather.

The total cost of the siren upgrade was 31,7000. Public Service of Oklahoma (PSO) donated the labor and equipment for the installation of the sirens.

Edward L. Wright III

November 3, 2011

Edward L. Wright III was born November 7, 1961 in Dallas, TX., to Edward L. and Goldie (Gould) Wright II. He passed from this life on Saturday, October 29, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 49. Butch married Carla Teafatiller September 8, 2002 in Dallas, TX. He loved his wife madly. He was a spiritual man who sought the Lord every day. He enjoyed traveling, boating and riding motorcycles, especially his Harley Davidson. He also loved to fish and spent a lot of time outside with his horses and his favorite dog, Caesar.

James Henry Mize

James Henry Mize was born on February 2, 1937 in Fanshawe to the late Lillie Mae (Jones) and Francis Cecil Mize. He passed from this life on Monday, October 24, 2011 in Wilburton at the age of 74. James was the husband of the late Billie Jane Mize. They married in 1967 in Seminole, TX. He was an Air Man 3rd Class of the U.S. Army Air Corp. James also worked in the oil field and attended the Son Shine Fellowship Church in Wilburton. James was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

Kellett bags his first deer on opening day

Ty Kellett, age 11, bagged his first 8 point buck opening day of muzzle loading season near Moyers while hunting with his dad. It toppped the scales at 148 pounds.

Brittany Hedgecock of Antlers killed this 6 point 172 pound buck west of Antlers on Byron Hedgecocks land.

As of Thursday, November 3, 2011, The Antlers American newspaper officially created a facebook page so that our customers could have access to even more information and news about events around Pushmataha County!
