AHS crowns homecoming queen

October 11, 2012

Anlters High School crowned their 2012 Homecoming King and Queen on Friday night (Oct. 5, 2012) before they faced off against the Pamana Razorbacks in a home game at Bearcat Stadium. The 2012 Homecoming Queen was Kelsee Schier, the Student Council candidate. Her escort, and Homecoming King, #67, was Dakota Taylor.

Fallin Appoints District Judge

October 11, 2012

Gov. Mary Fallin announced the appointment of Michael DeBerry to the 17th Judicial District Office of McCurtain, Choctaw and Pushmataha Counties. He is replacing Willard Driesel, who is deceased.

DeBerry of Idabel is the Associate District Judge in McCurtain County. He has served in various roles, including assistant district attorney, associate district judge, half- time assistant district attorney, municipal judge for the city of Idabel, first assistant district attorney and as a self-practicing attorney.

Antlers Seventh grader gets a response from GEAR UP balloon launch

A balloon tied with a special message traveled about 50 miles from Antlers, OK to Sumner, Tx and a local junior high school student received an encouraging letter in return.

Heather Scott, a seventh grader from Antlers, launched her balloon as part of the National GEAR UP Week celebration Sept. 10-14. Antlers is one of 30 partner schools currently participating in Eastern Oklahoma State College’s GEAR UP for Success program.

BenJo Hotubbee

BenJo Hotubbee,80, of Wilburton, passed from this life on September 20, 2012. Ben was born in Buffalo Valley on August 17, 1932, the son of the late Allen and Ruthie (Hokit) Hotubbee of Yanish. On August 20, 1955 he married Marvelleen Bankston. After loosing his first wife, Ben found love again with Jan Whitten of Wilburton. They married in October 1996 in Antlers. God called Ben from the oil fields of West Texas into the ministry in 1971. After being ordained, Ben moved his family to Otter Creek. Four years later he followed God’s call to Mt.

Gertie Nash

Gertie Nash was born in Pickens, OK, to Mary and Andy McFarlin. She passed from this life peacefully on September 13, 2012, surrounded by loved ones at the home of her daughter in Albuquerque, NM. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill Nash, and her brothers Tony McFarlin and Willie Nelson. She is survived by her daughter Vadare Cornelison; Grand-daughter Carol and husband Monty Flynn, all of Albuquerque., NM; Great-grandsons Luc Flynn, Lyon France; Step-sons, Richard Nash, CA., Bob Nash, AR; Nephew Al Nelson of Rattan, and other nieces and nephews.

Cattlemen’s Association gears up for annual dinner

The Pushmataha, Atoka & Choctaw Cattlemen’s Association will be having their third annual dinner at the Kiamichi Vo-Tech in Hugo on October 13, 2012. The dinner will begin at 7 p.m.

Deer Festival to kickoff Friday

The 11th Annual Deer Festival and Outdoor Show is once again upon us. As cooling temperatures and shorter days have many residents anticipating deer season, individuals and organizations scramble to put the finishing touches on their projects as attendees prepare for hours of family fun and events to keep their family entertained. The event is an annual mainstay for sportsman and individuals who enjoy the outdoors since 2002.

Council to consider curfew changes

At the monthly meeting of the Antlers City Council, Antlers Police Department addressed the council and urged them to shorten the City’s curfew for minors.

Lady Rams return to State Championship

The Rattan Lady Rams have advanced to the State Tournament once again. Rattan Public School will be out of classes on Thursday to make it possible for students and teachers to go support their team.

The Lady Rams will take the field at the ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in OKC against Amber-Pocasset on field 3 at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2012.

The Rattan Rams have advanced to the State Tournament. Rattan Public School will be out of classes on Thursday to make it possible for students and teachers to go support their team.

The Rams will take the field at Edmond Santa Fe at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2012, against Latta.
