We have all heard and been touched by the story of the heavily armed man that walked into Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut on Friday, December 14th, and opened fire. Within minutes, 26 people were dead at the school, 20 of them children and 6 adults.
Monday night while trying to remove a dead dear from the roadway, that had been killed in an earlier accident, Marie Hilburnâs vehicle was struck from behind.
Hilburn, 39 year old female of Spencerville, had been traveling east on HWY 3 in Rattan when she stopped her vehicle in the road to remove the deer. Hilburnâs Ford pickup was hit from behind by a 2005 Mazda that was being driven by Janice Rose Headrick, a 60 year old female from McAlester.
A General Contractors lunch was held at the ODOT Division 2 Headquarters on Friday, Dec. 14th, to show their appreciation to the hard working men and women that help repair and maintain our roadways and bridges.
âThis is our way of saying Thanks to all the guys and gals who work so hard to maintain and build our roadways,â said Bobby Steem, the director of the Association of Oklahoma General Contractors. âAs contractors we just want to do the job right and give the tax payers what they deserve and pay for.â
It began with an unsolicited and unexpected telephone call from a Sawyer native by the name of Albert Shirley who is employed as a Construction Manager for Flint Energy Services Ltd., âa leading provider of engineering, construction and technical services for public agencies and private sector companies around the worldâ. Mr. Shirley contacted Little Dixie Community Action Agencyâs (LDCAA) Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program director, Mrs. Karla Luginbill.

The shooter, identified by three law enforcement officials as 20-year-old Adam Lanza, also was killed, apparently by his own hand. Separately, his mother's body was found at a Newtown residence.

You will need: 1 (18 1/4 ounce) box devil's food cake mix (Betty Crocker Super Moist suggested), 1/2 cup vegetable oil, 2 large eggs, and confectioners' sugar or granulated sugar, for rolling.
An old tradition has been resurrected and has made it's first appearance in over 20 years for this holiday season.
The tree is located at the end of south High Street in front of the court house and will be decorated with ornaments that were made by area elementary school children.
The tree lighting is scheduled for Friday, Dec. 14th at 6:30 p.m.
Last Tuesday night as the crowd filled the Antlers High School gymnasium the Lady Cats took the home court for the first time of the season. The Lady Cats came prepared to play and at the end of the first quarter the score was Antlers with a small lead at 16 points-Boswell 12, the Lady Scorpions were not going to quit and by the half had closed the lead to 1, as it was 27-26.
On December 6th, 7th and 8th, the Bearcats traveled to Talihina to participate in the Choctaw Nation Invitational Tournament.
The first round of play we were set to play Central, who would prove to be a team to beat as they would go on to play Rattan in the Championship round. Central won against the Bearcats with a final score of 58-59.
In the Second Round of play they were matched with the Wister Wildcats and with a 63-55 victory for the Bearcats, they advanced into the 3rd Round of play for Consolation.
