Thelma Jean Cope was born May 4, 1943 in Snow to Granville and Thelma Irene (Davis) Pool. She passed from this life December 30, 2011 in Tulsa at the age of 68. Thelma was a lifetime resident of the Antlers area. She was of the Baptist faith and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents: Roy & Irene Pool; stepmother: Geneva Pool; grandparents: Granville & Tinnie Pool and Emmitt & Charlie Will Davis; and a brother: J. C. Norman. She is survived by her children: James E.
Dora Earlene Dowell was born August 16, 1950 in Talihina to Paulene (Billy) Fish. She passed from this life December 29, 2011, in Talihina at the age of 61. Earlene married William Charles Dowell February 14, 2006. She was a member of the Kingâs House of McAlester. Earlene enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and helping others.
Juanita Icy Gooch was born on March 20, 1923, in Rattan, to Alfred and Icy (Cypert) Clark. She went to be with the Lord on December 13, 2011. Juanita married U.F. âPeteâ Gooch on June 23, 1942. Juanita was a World War II âRosie the Ruiterâ working at the Goodyear Tire Company in San Francisco, CA., and later as an aircraft repair Tech at Tinker Field in Oklahoma City while her husband served his country in Germany. She was especially proud of her work at the Pushmataha County Hospital during the 60âs. Pete and Juanita were in the Feed Business in Antlers for 35 years.
Viola Mae Sisco was born May 8, 1924 near Soper to Louis Valentine and Ruth Pennington. She joined her beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on January 2, 2012 in Cypress, TX., at the age of 87. In 1940, Viola married Charlie Edward Sisco and had 7 children. In 1985, Viola moved to Houston, TX., to make her home with her loving and devoted daughter Debra, who diligently cared for her until her passing. Viola enjoyed quilting, gardening, painting, playing piano, fishing and sewing.
Lucy Lorene Tuck was born October 13, 1923, in Lucky, AR., to John Albert Martin and Della Narcissa (Wright). She passed from this life December 28, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 88. Lucy married Coy Tuck September 14, 1940 in Ringold. She enjoyed flower gardening and crocheting, along with visiting with family and friends. Lucy was preceded in death by her Son: Tommy Lewis Tuck; parents: John and Della (Wright) Martin; brothers: Varna Martin; Quincy Martin and Willard Martin.
On December 29th and 30th Antlers hosted a Holiday Basketball Festival for local teams. Most of the games went smoothly but during the Bearcats and Rams Boyâs game the crowd began to show their true colors with yelling at the referees, cursing at coaches and all in all bad sportsmanship on the part of the fans and parents in the stands.
As the second article in my Anti-Bulling series i would like to focus on the main points of bullying and the signs to look for if your child is being bullied or is a bully.
Bullying has been focused into three main points. These points are: Imbalance of Power, Intent to Cause Harm and Repetition.
On Thursday, December 29, 2011 many residents of Pushmataha, Choctaw and McCurtain Counties were saddened to hear of the death of District Judge Willard Driesel. Driesel, 58, passed away after a lengthy battle with several health issues, including cancer, in Tyler, TX on December 11, 2011. Judge Driesel will be remembered by many as a fair and professional administrator to the courts and to many as a true and loyal friend.
At his request, he was cremated. A memorial service took place on Monday, January 2, 2012 in Broken Bow.
Pushmataha Hospital is starting off the new year by saving lives through blood donation with Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI). All healthy adults, 16 and older,* are encouraged to donate blood from Noon to 6 p.m., on Tuesday, January 17, at Antlers Library on 104 S.E. 2nd Street.Â Blood donors at the Pushmataha Hospital blood drive will receive an OBI ice scraper and free health screenings.
