Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Eric Blades, of the Pushmataha County Detachment, Antlers, was recently named Trooper of the Year at the Department of Public Safety’s 75th Anniversary banquet.
The events leading to Trooper Blade’s achievement centered on the heroic actions taken against three Wright City bank robbery suspects, which lead into a pursuit and ended with two of the suspects expiring from fatal gunshot wounds.
Antlers may not trend much on Twitter or go viral on many YouTube videos, but it recently was a winner in a nationwide online contest. In fact, a Facebook community seven times larger than its population voted the town an upgrade for its library.
Thirteen students from Antlers Public School participated in the State Special Olympics in Stillwater. The athletes returned to Antlers with 6 gold medal, 3 silver medals, 2 bronze medals and numerous ribbons.
Trisha Bain received the Masonic Teacher of the Year for Antlers Elementary. She has taught Pre-Kindergarten at Antlers Elementary for twelve years.
To prepare for the day he’d been waiting for, John Blair, formerly of Clayton, donned a white and black civilian service uniform. He polished his silver trumpet, the one he first played back in 1985 as a high school junior. He packed the instrument carefully in its leather bag and drove through a clear May morning to Arlington National Cemetery.

Jack Truston Cantrell was born November 15, 1988 in Ingleside, TX., to Helen Sacred-Horsesghost and the late Joe M. Cantrell. He passed from this life suddenly on May 7, 2012 at the age of 23. He spent most of his young life in Oklahoma before he moved to Colorado where he worked as a skilled laborer at NCI Moving and Storage. Jack was a gift to us all. He was a loving and respected son, brother and uncle who will be greatly missed.
Audrey Lydia Lember was born August 14, 1925 in Los Angeles, CA., to Frank A. and Mabel (Fraser) Williams. She passed from this life on May 16, 2012 in Paris, TX, at the age of 86. Audrey married Charles Robert Lember on September 4, 1946 at the Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles, CA., and together they raised three children. Audrey worked for Ducommon, a distributor of metals, during World War II. She later worked for Sanyo in the Marketing Department. Audrey was a member of the Rainbow Girls, and she enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, and bicycling.
