Paulena Wynonda Penny, 70, of Rattan, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 in McAlester. Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2011 at the Spencerville Cemetery in Spencerville. Arrangements entrusted to Miller & Miller Funeral Home of Hugo.

Students from Antlers that were named to the Southeastern Collegeâ€™s Presidentâ€™s 2011 Fall honor roll. To qualify a student must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours of college-level courses with a 4.0 GPA. The students from Antlers were: Colton J. Ammerer, Kayle E. Bryant, Lacey J. Morgan and Neida K. Owens. A student from Clayton was also named to the Presidentâ€™s honor roll, Severt A. Dahl.
On Thursday, February 17, 2012, the Antlers Chapter of ESA donated $250 to the Antlers Public Library to help fund the E-Book service of the Oklahoma Virtual Library Consortium, which now has 15 member libraries from around the state. The Antlers Public Library has now raised the $1,500 annual fee to join this service.
Project SPIT receives the â€śSmart Start Partner of the Yearâ€ť Award from Tri-County Smart Start Director, Dennis Willeford, for their outstanding achievements in promoting healthy learning for young children in Choctaw, McCurtain and Pushmataha Counties.
The Moyers Tigers took on the 10th ranked Red Oak Eagles this past week in the first round of the Regional competition. This would prove to be a thrilling, nail biting, heart pounding game that came down to the wire.
Junior Brandon Slocum got the opening tip for the Tigers. Sr. Jake Mattingly scored the first basket for the Tigers. The Tigers jumped out to an early lead in an aggressive, physical battle. At the end of one the score was 12-2.
The Rattan Rams and Lady Rams recently competed in their District Basketball Tournament where they both competed against Haworth. The Lady Rams received the title of District Champions by winning over Haworth with a final score of 41 to 31. The Lady Rams will continue on Regionals and take on the Atoka Lady Wampus Cats at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 23rd in Atoka.
On Saturday, February 25, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club will hold their 41st Annual Awards Banquet. The banquet will be held at the Antlers High School Cafeteria and will begin at 6:00 p.m. On tap for the menu will be smoked brisket, rolls and soft drinks with members bringing all the side dishes and desserts.
The speaker for this yearâ€™s banquet will be Mr. Jack Waymire, manager of the Pushmataha County Wildlife Management Area near Clayton. Jack will update members on current wildlife conditions and habitat conditions as well.
This past Saturday night our Bearcats and Lady Cats were set to play the Valliant Bulldogs in our one and only District game. Coming into this game the Lady Bulldogs had a season record of 8-14, and both of our teams came into the play offs with a record of 13-9.
Walter Nowell, 69, of Hugo/Antlers, passed from this life on Sunday, Februray 12, 2012. Memorial services will be conducted by the family at 4:00 p.m. on February 17, 2012 at the Westside Baptist Church. Arrangements entrusted to Mills & Coffey Funeral Home in Antlers.
