January 9th
Donald R. “Don” Masters was born on September 19, 1940 to Walter B. and Eunice (McAllister) Masters of Antlers. He passed from this life on January 4, 2012 in Benton, AR., at the age of 71. Donald was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Highway Church of Christ and in construction business. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter B. and Eunice Masters; a son, David Masters, and two sisters, Jenelle Bradford and Wanda Lou Palmer.
The Moyers Tigers have been busy this past week with basketball play. Let's start with Bennington. The Lady Tigers came out strong in the first half. They played good zone defense and kept the score close in the first half. In the second half, the Bears found their groove and the lady Tigers fell 45-25. Shelby Geary lead the scoring with 18, Calli Winters with 4, Shelby Clark with 1, and Carrie Collins with 2.Â

January Meeting of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club
Members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club will hold their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, January 12. The club normally meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Wildlife Heritage Center and Museum. However, the club has agreed to postpone its meeting time to allow the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife to host a public meeting on proposed wildlife regulation changes. Their meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Wildlife Heritage Center. The Pushmataha County Sportsman Club members will meet immediately after the public meeting.
American Cancer Society Seeks Volunteers for Local Relay For Life Event

As you consider how you can make a difference in the coming year, consider joining the fight against cancer by volunteering for Relay For Life, an event that benefits the American Cancer Society’s mission to eliminate cancer. Volunteer positions are still available, and more information about these volunteer opportunities will be provided at the next Relay For Life planning meeting on February 2nd, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at the AmeriState Conference Room in Antlers.
On Wednesday, January 4, 2012, Rattan Public School welcomed a new superintendent to their administration team, Mrs. Shari Pillow. Mrs. Pillow came to us from Comanche County in Southwestern Oklahoma, where she had lived all of her life. After her and her husband Bobby purchased a place close to Rattan, she heard about Rattan’s previous superintendent, Bruce Lawless’s, retirement.
 Press Release-Pushmataha Hospital is starting off the new year by saving lives through blood donation with Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI). All healthy adults, 16 and older,* are encouraged to donate blood from Noon to 6 p.m., on Tuesday, January 17, in the Hospital’s new multipurpose room. Blood donors at the Pushmataha Hospital blood drive will receive an OBI ice scraper and free health screenings.

January 5th
Willard L. Driesel, Jr., 58, of the Hochatown Community, passed away December 29, 2011 in Tyler, TX. He was born December 7, 1953 in Ponca City. He had lived in McCurtain County since 1986.  He was an active member of Faith Christian Center for 12 years and had a great love for the Lord and was proud to share that love and faith with others. Willard was an avid hunter and fisherman. Willard was District Judge for 17 years in McCurtain, Pushmataha and Choctaw Counties. His background includes 11 years in law enforcement. He was a police officer in Oklahoma City.
Thelma Jean Cope was born May 4, 1943 in Snow to Granville and Thelma Irene (Davis) Pool. She passed from this life December 30, 2011 in Tulsa at the age of 68. Thelma was a lifetime resident of the Antlers area. She was of the Baptist faith and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents: Roy & Irene Pool; stepmother: Geneva Pool; grandparents: Granville & Tinnie Pool and Emmitt & Charlie Will Davis; and a brother: J. C. Norman. She is survived by her children: James E.
Dora Earlene Dowell was born August 16, 1950 in Talihina to Paulene (Billy) Fish. She passed from this life December 29, 2011, in Talihina at the age of 61. Earlene married William Charles Dowell February 14, 2006. She was a member of the King’s House of McAlester. Earlene enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and helping others.
Juanita Icy Gooch was born on March 20, 1923, in Rattan, to Alfred and Icy (Cypert) Clark. She went to be with the Lord on December 13, 2011. Juanita married U.F. “Pete” Gooch on June 23, 1942. Juanita was a World War II “Rosie the Ruiter” working at the Goodyear Tire Company in San Francisco, CA., and later as an aircraft repair Tech at Tinker Field in Oklahoma City while her husband served his country in Germany. She was especially proud of her work at the Pushmataha County Hospital during the 60’s. Pete and Juanita were in the Feed Business in Antlers for 35 years.
