Veteran's News: Welcome Home Veteran's

Well, I hope you all liked the Welcome Home Veterans' parade. I was hoping for more participation but found out we need to use more current ways of advertising it. Those include putting more on the VFW Post 3658 Website and Facebook page. So I will be sending my Webmaster (Rocky) these columns too.

Clayton Academic teams win OPAC Academic Conference

Clayton High School and Junior High School Academic teams won the OPAC Academic Conference which includes teams from Antlers, Atoka , Caney, and Rattan. Both teams also won the tournament held on Nov. 4th , which was held at Clayton.

Elementary School Building to be Named in Honor of Longtime Educator

The Antlers Board of Education and Superintendent, Cary Ammons, will be conducting a ceremony to name the new elementary building on Thursday, November 21st at 4:00 p.m. The building will be named the “Aletha Burrage Building” in honor of long time principal and educator, Aletha Booker Burrage. The dedication ceremony will be located at the site of the building.

Woman and children injured in collision

A community has been deeply impacted after a collision has sent a mother and three children to separate hospitals.

On Friday afternoon, November 8th, Lisa Marie Courtwright of Rattan was traveling west on Rocky Point Road when, according to the police report, she failed to stop at a stop sign and pulled in front of a Kenworth Dump truck that was traveling north on HWY 147 in Pushmataha County.

All of the occupants of Courtwright’s Suburban were pinned for approximately 20 minutes until they were freed by Rattan First Responders.

City of Antlers gains new tax

The City of Antlers held a Special Election on Tuesday. The purpose of this election was for residents of Antlers to decide whether or not to pass a 1/2 cent tax increase that would be earmarked to repair the streets in Antlers.

The residents of Antlers voted to passed this tax with in one of the smallest turnouts in a long time. Only 93 people took the time to stop at the polls, 63 of them voted yes, and 30 people voted against the new tax.
