Aline Virginia Sam, 83, passed on from this life Sunday, January 6, 2013, in Paris, TX.. Virginia Sam was born in Ft. Towson, the daughter of George Lester and Etline (Tims) Washington. She married Leonard Sam in January 1953 in Hot Springs, AR. She was a lifelong member of the High Hill Church where she taught Sunday school for adults and children, but loved to take her grandchildren to church with her. Virginia had traveled extensively throughout her life and actually visited or lived in the forty-eight states. At the age of fifty she fulfilled her lifelong dream to become a LPN.

Kathryn Thompson McGlasson was born April 1, 1920 in Poteau, to Fred L. and Mamie (Halloway) Thompson. She passed from this life January 8, 2013 in Antlers, at the age of 92. Kathryn graduated from Muskogee Central High School in 1938. She had lived in the Antlers area for the past 20 years and was a member of the United Methodist Church. Kathryn was a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), 20th Century Club, & United Methodist Women. She enjoyed sewing and growing African Violets, but mostly, spending time with her family and friends.

Nancy Jane Chumley

Nancy Jane Chumley was born August 18, 1964 in Idabel, to Chester and Margaret (Owens) Standridge. She passed from this life January 1, 2013 in Antlers, at the age of 48. Nancy had been a resident of the Antlers area for all of her life. She married James Robert Chumley in Antlers on April 3, 1981. Nancy enjoyed playing with her grandchildren, growing her garden, riding her bike, and eating apple fritters. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents: Chester & Margaret Standridge; grandparents: Jim & Betty Standridge and J.P.

County approved for STP grant

The Pushmataha County Commissioners have received confirmation from the ACCO (Association of County Commissioners of Oklahoma) Board of Directors that the application which they submitted for the STP (Surface Transportation Program) Project selection list for 2017, category 2, has been approved. The final decision was made on December 12, 2012.

Pushmataha County’s application was ranked 1st of the 13 who applied, which only 6 of them were approved for funding.

Mullin Sworn into 113th Congress

Representative Markwayne Mullin was sworn into the United States House of Representatives today. He will represent Oklahoma's 2nd Congressional District in the 113th Congress.

“I am extremely humbled and honored for the privilege to represent the people of Oklahoma's 2nd District,” said Mullin. “I am looking forward to the work ahead and for the opportunity to serve.”

January proclaimed Mentoring Month in Antlers

At the regularly scheduled board meeting of the Antlers City Council, City Mayor, Mike Burrage (pictured above), signed a proclamation declaring January National Mentoring Month for the City of Antlers.

This proclamation was to help recognize that our success depends on helping children succeed in school and reach their full potential in life, and realize that young people need a solid foundation of support that will help them become well-educated, confident and productive citizens of Pushmataha County.

Moonshine still bust ends with arrest

Word spread quickly after Choctaw County Deputies located a still at the home of a Choctaw County senior citizen, and arrested him on charges of making moonshine.

According to Choctaw County Sheriff Terry Park, a deputy went to the house, which was located northwest of Soper, around 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2013, on a search warrant for another case when he found a still in a metal trailer on the property.
