In the April/March edition of American Cowboy magazine, Pushmataha County was listed as one of the top 20 rural counties from across the west for living out one’s cowboy dreams. Area’s that were selected came equipped with plenty of sky, grass and remote, each which come together to form a “fine destination well worth a visit -- or relocation.”

Car chase ends in gunfire

A man is still in critical condition a week after a pursuit ended in gunfire in Pushmataha County, last week.

Investigators stayed at the scene of the shooting for six hours in Antlers.

Witnesses said that they saw a white car cornering a little close to the corner of the EZ Go and McDonald's buildings, located on the Indian Nation Turnpike in Antlers. When they looked out, they saw a trooper hit the vehicle in the back. What happened next caught many by surprise, shots were fired.

Tigers fall to Big Pasture in first round of State

On a day when schools from around the state where getting prepared for the three day tournament that would decide who would take home the title of State Champion, the Moyers Tigers were making history.

For the first time in the school’s history, the Tigers won a bid to State. Moyers had never before sent a team, boys or girls, but this year the boys broke through.

The Tigers had a large crowd of fans in attendance at the Big House, well over the town’s population, as they took the court at the State Fair Arena on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013.

AT&T partners with AHS for "It Can Wait" program

AT&T* deployed its virtual reality driving simulator at Antlers High School to highlight the dangers of distracted driving for local students and allow them to experience the dangers of texting while driving first-hand.

The AT&T “It Can Wait” program and the virtual reality driving was at the Antlers High School on Monday, March 4, 2013, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

Whitener death still under investigation

In early December 2012, Dustin Whitener was found deceased in Antlers. Whitener was 26 years of age at his time of death.

After over a month of phone calls to the OSBI Headquarters in Oklahoma City, Jessica Brown, Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation’s PIO Director made a statement on Monday, “The Antlers Police Department requested that we open this case. Although no information has been released to the public, this case is still very much still open and extremely active. A long list of interviews, evidence and statements have been collected.”

Choctaw ponies draw texas teens to Antlers

Over the weekend a group of drama students from L.D. Bell High School in Hurst, TX., traveled the 170 miles to Antlers to participate in a bonding weekend to prepare for the University Interscholastic League One Act Play Competition.

Along with their Theatre Director, Candace Hooper, they were set for a weekend of fun and adventure as they were to spend the night at the Chahta Isuba Ranch, just east of Antlers. They would be able to take part in camping, volleyball, camp fire and pretty much anything else they could think of to do in the mountains.

Tigers on to State, History made

The Moyers Tigers are State Bound after defeating the McCurtain Bulldogs 65-55 Saturday night in Kingston. The Tigers claimed the Area Runner Up Trophy after falling to the Red Oak Eagles on Friday night. The Tigers played hard against the Eagles and the score was close through the end of the 3rd quarter. However, the Tigers shooting was cold throughout the game and their efforts fell short with a final score of 53-42.

The Saturday night game was a rematch of the Regional Championship game with the McCurtain Bulldogs.
