The Antlers High School Business Professionals of America (BPA) members recently attended the 2013 BPA State Leadership Conference. Business Professionals of America members are provided an opportunity for the development of leadership skills, personal and professional growth, and career-related competencies. The state leadership conference is the highlight of the year and helps the more than 5,000 members across the state accomplish these objectives. Over 2,400 high school, middle school, and post secondary students attended the 2013 State Leadership Conference.
Antlers Elementary will be hosting a 5K Walk/Run and Fun Run event on Saturday, April 27th at 8:00 a.m. This yearâ€™s 5K, called â€śRowdyâ€™s Runâ€ť, is being held in memory of Rowdy Beasley.
All proceeds from the 5K entries fees and the promotion t-shirts will go toward purchasing playground equipment in memory of Rowdy.
The bombing that took place during the Boston Marathon has left many people confused, frightened and saddened. Now that the sirens have died down, details about the aftermath of the bombings are starting to solidify.
We now know that one of the three people killed was Martin Richard, an 8-year-old boy from Dorchester who died while cheering for his father, according to The Boston Globe. His mother and sister were also injured in the attack.
At least 176 people were injured in the bombings, with at least 17 of them in critical condition. Eight are children, according to CNN.com.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported that several earthquakes shook central Oklahoma Tuesday morning.
All of the activity was centered northeast of Oklahoma City, with the strongest of the tremors being a 4.3 magnitude quake near the town of Luther.
A small earthquake of magnitude 3.0 preceded the temblor, and two small tremors with magnitudes of 2.8 and 3.3 rattled nearby within 20 minutes of the initial quake.
Steven M. Hunt, a 17 year old white male of Antlers, is being charged with 2nd Degree Burglary (felony), Injury to a Motor Vehicle (felony) and Malicious injury to property - under $1000.00 (misdemeanor).
The first charge Hunt is facing is back from January. According to the reports, Hunt is being charged with defacing a 1996 Chevrolet Bus Van that belonged to the Antlers Church of Christ by busting out the entry door glass and stabbing the window.
If you enjoy bass fishing, winning cash, prizes and trophies, then you might want to consider entering in this yearâ€™s Big Bass Rodeo. The Pushmataha County Sportsman Club will host the 42nd Annual Big Bass Rodeo on April 20-21, at Pine Creek Lake. This is the oldest, continuous running big bass tournament in the state and quite possibly the nation. This is the clubâ€™s only fund raising event.
Megan Buchanan had a cold and windy day to contest with but she finished 1st at the Valliant High School Tournament that was held on April 2nd at the Idabel Country Club. Megan shot a score of 83.
Their next tournament will be the Allen HS Tournament that will be held at Atoka Trails Golf Course in Atoka.
On Thursday March 28, 2013, The Antlers HS Girls Golf team hosted a HS girls golf tournament at Hugo Golf Club. School attending were Antlers, Broken Bow, Haworth, Valliant, Haileyville, Allen, and Coalgate.
First place for individuals went to Megan Buchanan of Antlers with a score of 78; 2nd was April Hughes of Haworth with a 79; and 3rd went to Beyla Skelton of Allen with a 82.
Placing first for overall team score was Allen, with second going to Broken Bow.
Also participating for Antlers HS was Breanna Rosa and Gianna Allensworth!
