Bearcats set to kickoff at 7 p.m.

The Antlers Bearcat Football team will take the field tonight in the first home game, or scrimmage in this case, of the 2013-2014 season.

Kickoff will be at 7:00 p.m.

Come on out and show your support for this talented, hardworking, group of young men.

Their next scrimmage will be an away game played on Friday, Aug. 30, 2013 against Haileyville.

The first official game of the season for the Bearcats will take place on Friday, September 6th, in an away game against the Valliant Bulldogs.

Dollar General celebrates relocation with grand opening

Dollar General continues to make shopping easier and more convenient for customers in Antlers with the grand opening its new store at 300 West Main this Saturday, August 24 beginning at 8 a.m. A ribbon cutting will take place at 9:00 a.m.

Customers will enjoy special deals and free prizes at the grand opening event. Additionally, the first 50 shoppers will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card and the first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General tote bag, among other giveaways.

Push ranked 34th for most marijuana arrests

Oklahoma’s arrest rate for marijuana possession is slightly above the national rate, and arrest rates vary considerably among counties, according to an Oklahoma Watch analysis of 10 years’ worth of FBI data.

In 2010, the most recent year for which data is available, the median arrest rate in Oklahoma was about 270 arrests per 100,000 population, slightly higher than the national rate of 256.

Over a decade, from 2001 to 2010, the average annual rates for Oklahoma counties varied widely, from fewer than 200 to more than 1,000 arrests per 100,000 residents.

OHP teams up with other agencies for “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign

If you drink and drive in Oklahoma, beware: The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is joining with law enforcement agencies across the state and throughout the nation for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign Aug. 16 through Sept. 2.

Law enforcement officers will be aggressively looking for impaired drivers, arresting anyone who is caught driving while impaired.

Deputy makes felony stop after driver waves gun

Pushmataha County Sheriffs Deputy Marzek radioed dispatch to inform them that he was going to need another Deputy to his location after he saw the driver of a blue pickup raise a rifle in the back glass.

Deputy Marzek was on patrol when he saw a pickup go partially into the ditch on Nelson Road when the two vehicles were getting ready to meet. According to the police report, the driver of the pickup waved at the deputy like he was glad to see him.

Spiders of Oklahoma: Black Widow

The female black widow spider (Figure 3) is slightly larger than the brown recluse and is glossy black in color. It is globular in shape and never hairy. It has eight eyes arranged in two rows. The overall length of the female (legs extended) is about 1 1/2 inches and the male is much smaller, about 1 inch long. The male usually has three light streaks on his abdomen but is recognizable by knob-like appendages on the front of the head. The female has slim, glossy black legs, but the best recognition mark is a reddish hourglass-shaped spot on the underside of her globular abdomen.

Spiders of Oklahoma: Brown Recluse

With a wet July behind us, we have been introduced to a very hot and humid August. When this happens it is common for residents to see an increase in insects including spiders, roaches, flies and mosquitoes. Although roaches, flies and mosquitoes are annoying little pests they normally do not cause any medical or health issues for humans. Spiders however, can cause many problems. Especially the poisonous ones.

August 5th

Suspect wanted after double homicide

Authorities are looking for a suspect after a late-night shooting in Choctaw County left two men dead. Officials say the shooting happened late Saturday night at an apartment complex in Hugo.

According to the OSBI, Hugo police received a call around 11 p.m. on Saturday to 541 Southwind Acres Apartments off South 15th Street. Upon arrival, they found two men had been shot multiple times. Both victims were pronounced dead.

July 29th

Severe storms and dangerous heat expected in Push Co

Pushmataha county and much of southeastern Oklahoma and northeast Texas are under severe thunderstorm and dangerous heat advisories for today and into tonight.

A frontal boundary extending form the Oklahoma panhandle into northeast Texas will move north as a warm front today and tonight. Scattered thunderstorms will develop in the vicinity of the front, especially this afternoon. However, the greatest storm coverage will be in northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas where the upper level support is the greatest.

July 26th

Pushmataha County under Flash Flood Watch

We can expect more showers and possibly a thunderstorm this evening headed into tonight. Experts are expecting chances to dwindle off after 1 a.m.

Our area will remain under a flash flood watch until 7:00 p.m. with some areas expected to see up to 3 inches of rain. However, most will only see around an inch.
