Two listed as critical after collision

Clarence Savage, a 70 year old from Antlers, was transported by Eagle Med Air Ambulance to Parkland Hospital in Dallas after a collision that happened west of Grant in Choctaw County. Savage was listed in critical condition with head and trunk injuries.

On Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, Savage was driving a 1997 Mercury south on HWY 271 when a 2007 International Semi, being driven by William Treese of Missouri, made an unsafe left hand turn in front of Savage.

City moving forward, demolishes hazordous buildings

The City of Antlers had out some heavy machinery earlier this week as they began demolition of 100+ year old buildings in the downtown area. County Commissioner District #2, Jerry Duncan, was more than willing to help as he manned the hydraulic excavator. City Manager Joel Taylor stated that the buildings had become a safety concern, were unusable and hazardous. Taylor went on to state that there is currently nothing planned for the lots but it was originally purchased to build a new fire station, but they were denied the grant.

Bigfoot Festival rescheduled for spring

Bigfoot fans were devastated when they heard that the 2012 Honobia Bigfoot festival canceled last fall but enthusiasts can get a quick dose to tide them over until this fall.

Collins signs letter of intent

Jake Collins recently signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Eastern Oklahoma State College. Jake is the grandson of Kenneth & Royce Battles of Antlers and was recently name Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association Player of the Year. Seated are his parents: Ed Collins & Tammy Collins. Local student places in 66th annual SE District Livestock Show

Hundreds of students from across the state recently competed in the 66th annual Southeast District Livestock Show at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton. The show is jointly sponsored by the Eastern Agriculture Division and the Wilburton Lions Club. There were 413 swine, 108 sheep, 159 goats and 124 cattle entered in the show.

Bearcats beat the Bulldogs for the first time in 9 years!!

On Tuesday, January 29th, our Bearcats traveled to Valliant to take on Coach Aaron Noel’s Bulldogs, who we haven’t been able to beat in nine years. Our Bearcats knew this game would be a tough one, especially on the Bulldogs homecoming night, and they were prepared to go hard all four quarters.
