Talion Jared Nelson

August 24, 2011

Talion Jared Nelson was born June 8, 1971 in Hugo to Terry & Arline Nelson. He passed from this life at his home in Tulsa surrounded by his family at the age of 40 years. Talion was raised in Antlers and was a graduate of Antlers High School, class of 1989.  Talion started his working career at the First Bank of Antlers while attending high school.  Upon moving to Oklahoma City he began working  for Hertz International.   He then made a move to AOL where he was the General Manager of Operations for many years.

Harvey Daniel Joslin

August 24, 2011

Harvey Daniel Joslin was born May 6, 1937 in Snow to Clarence and Lois (Noland) Joslin. He passed from this life August 10, 2011 in McAlester at the age of 74. Harvey grew up in Joslin Valley riding and hunting in the canyons and mountains and fishing and swimming in Caney and Cedar Creeks. This is the country he loved. Harvey married Patricia Sanders on June 27, 1958 in Hugo and together they raised three children. He lived and worked several places such as, the logwoods of California, ranches and sale barns in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Myrtle Georgia Beasley

Myrtle Georgia Beasley was born May 7, 1920 in Blanco to George F. and Fannie Mae (Gibbins) Creswell. She passed from this life August 15, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 91 years, 3 months, & 8 days. Myrtle lived all her life in Antlers. She was of the Pentecostal faith. She enjoyed watching her flowers grow, spending time with her family and friends, and loving on her grandkids every chance she got. Myrtle was preceded in death by her first husband Babe C.

County districts tweeked slightly

On Thursday, August 18, 2011 a special meeting was held by the County Commissioners of Pushmataha County to address the issue of redistricting that was mandated by the Federal Government following population distribution changes after the 2010 Census.

Night drop off proves easy target for theives

Citizens of Antlers and surrounding communities,

First of all we want to thank you for your generosity of all the donations we receive, but it seems like a few people around here believe it is ok to take anything they want from what is left in front of and behind the SOS For Families Thrift Store.

The profits from our store go for battered women, or men, and their children.

The items are sometimes left when our store is closed and we try to put them in as soon as possible but if one of us are not passing by the store it seems like some people think it is theirs for the taking.

Tribes file lawsuit to protect water rights

After several years of unsuccessful attempts to establish government-to-government negotiations with the state to resolve water issues, the Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations filed legal action today in US District Court in Oklahoma City to protect the tribes' water resources.

Driver fleeing leaves passenger trapped for 45 minutes

On Wednesday, August 17, 2011 on SH93 about 6 miles north of Hugo in Choctaw County a collision occurred at about 10:30 p.m. involving a 34 year-old male from Rattan.

A 2005 Chevy Pickup being drove by Daniel R. Martin, of Rattan, was southbound on SH93 when it stopped behind another vehicle at a construction traffic light which controlled the open lane of SH93. When the light changed to green the Chevy passed another vehicle in a no passing zone, drove through the cones marking the construction area and struck an unmarked construction trailer loaded with I-beams.

Junior Bassmasters honored

The Pushmataha County Junior Bassmasters held their second state qualifying bass fishing tournament on Hugo Lake on Saturday, August 20. The tournament was sponsored by FirstBank of Atoka. FirstBank donated $300.00 to the club to be used for prizes for each angler that competed.

With temperatures forecasted to be around 108 degrees, tournament hours were shortened to start at safe light and end at 1:00 p.m.

Family altercation leads to gun play

August 19, 2011

A family altercation over tools turned to gun play and an Antlers man now faces charges of reckless conduct with a firearm.

Charges filed last week in district court stem from an August 6 incident involving an argument between Cy Ditzler, who was charged, and his son-in-law, Lee DeWitt.

County Faces Redistricting

This month’s County Commissioners’ meeting was far from normal as many citizens attended to hear the discussion of the Redistricting of Pushmataha County. Due to the high volume of individuals attending (60 plus citizens) the meeting was moved to the Community room in order to accommodate the large turnout.
