August 24th
On Thursday, August 18, 2011 a special meeting was held by the County Commissioners of Pushmataha County to address the issue of redistricting that was mandated by the Federal Government following population distribution changes after the 2010 Census.

First of all we want to thank you for your generosity of all the donations we receive, but it seems like a few people around here believe it is ok to take anything they want from what is left in front of and behind the SOS For Families Thrift Store.
The profits from our store go for battered women, or men, and their children.
The items are sometimes left when our store is closed and we try to put them in as soon as possible but if one of us are not passing by the store it seems like some people think it is theirs for the taking.
After several years of unsuccessful attempts to establish government-to-government negotiations with the state to resolve water issues, the Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations filed legal action today in US District Court in Oklahoma City to protect the tribes' water resources.
On Wednesday, August 17, 2011 on SH93 about 6 miles north of Hugo in Choctaw County a collision occurred at about 10:30 p.m. involving a 34 year-old male from Rattan.
A 2005 Chevy Pickup being drove by Daniel R. Martin, of Rattan, was southbound on SH93 when it stopped behind another vehicle at a construction traffic light which controlled the open lane of SH93. When the light changed to green the Chevy passed another vehicle in a no passing zone, drove through the cones marking the construction area and struck an unmarked construction trailer loaded with I-beams.
August 19th
A family altercation over tools turned to gun play and an Antlers man now faces charges of reckless conduct with a firearm.
Charges filed last week in district court stem from an August 6 incident involving an argument between Cy Ditzler, who was charged, and his son-in-law, Lee DeWitt.
August 18th
This month’s County Commissioners’ meeting was far from normal as many citizens attended to hear the discussion of the Redistricting of Pushmataha County. Due to the high volume of individuals attending (60 plus citizens) the meeting was moved to the Community room in order to accommodate the large turnout.

If the tragic stories of abused and neglected children have broken your heart repeatedly, it may be time to take a positive step and make a real difference in a child’s life. Little Dixie Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program is offering volunteer training for all individuals wanting to become a child advocate.
August 10th
Many were saddened when we lost our long time superintendent of schools Mark Virden last year but now it is time to look forward to a new school year and new leader. Cary Ammons was named the new Antlers Public Schools Superintendent.
During the week of July 26th – 29th the Passport to the Future Mentoring Program hosted Art Camp 2011. The mentoring staff of Pushmataha & Choctaw County choses 5 mentees from each county and invited them to come and learn about drawing, sculpting, painting, photography & scrapbooking. We were amazed at the gift they all had.
Governor Mary Fallin has expanded the ban on outdoor burning to all of Oklahoma’s 77 counties. The Executive Proclamation expands the 45-county burn ban that was put in place on July 14, as the extreme to excessive drought conditions continue to worsen.
“We have just experienced the hottest July on record,” Fallin said. “The predictions of unrelenting extreme heat with no relief in sight make the statewide burn ban necessary.”
