Monday, March 21, 2011 the Antlers Board of Adjustments held a public hearing at the Antlers City Hall at 5:00 p.m. This meeting was to hear a request from Pine Telephone Co., Inc., out of Broken Bow, who were asking for a special exception from Antlers City Codes to allow a cellular antenna tower, of less than 200 feet, to be constructed in a commercial business district at 412 S.W. â€śCâ€ť Street in Antlers.
The Girl Scouts are facing bullying head on as they use their â€śPowered Up: Doing Nothing? Not an Option!â€ť program in local schools. This 8 week program started in the Antlers Intermediate School (Vegher) on February 28th and has been held every Monday from 2:15-3:00 p.m. (except for spring break week).
Kealey Standridge, student at Antlers High School, has officially won the District Essay competition for the VFWâ€™s â€śVoice of Democracyâ€ť Essay contest, for the 3rd year in a row. This essay contest is an annual contest which the VFW (Veterans of Foreign War) puts on as a scholarship program.
â€śWe are as proud of this girl as we can be,â€ť said Mr. Neil Kimberland, member of the VFW. â€śIt is students like her who help us have big hopes for the future.â€ť
â€śThe Pride of Antlersâ€ť began their Spring Competitions this past Saturday with District Solo and Ensemble Competition in Durant,ok. They traveled to the campus of Southeastern Oklahoma State University to compete either as individuals or in small groups. â€śIt was a fantastic dayâ€ť, commented Mr. Potter, â€śall of our students made either a Superior or an Excellent Rating and Iâ€™m very proud of their effort.â€ť In solo completion the students who made an Excellent Rating were Michael Lampton, John Ables, Kali Clark, Elizabeth Guerrant, Lindsey Larue, and Kayla Ward.
