Antlers may not trend much on Twitter or go viral on many YouTube videos, but it recently was a winner in a nationwide online contest. In fact, a Facebook community seven times larger than its population voted the town an upgrade for its library.
Trisha Bain received the Masonic Teacher of the Year for Antlers Elementary. She has taught Pre-Kindergarten at Antlers Elementary for twelve years.
To prepare for the day heâd been waiting for, John Blair, formerly of Clayton, donned a white and black civilian service uniform. He polished his silver trumpet, the one he first played back in 1985 as a high school junior. He packed the instrument carefully in its leather bag and drove through a clear May morning to Arlington National Cemetery.

The courageous acts of a local 12 year old has many calling her a hero. Amy Maxey, a 6th grader at Antlers Middle School, saved her mother from a viscous dog attack, which many believe would have claimed her life.
Southeastern Oklahoma residents will have an opportunity to learn about the pending Sardis Lake lawsuit at an educational town hall forum that will take place on Thursday, May 31, 2012 at Molinaâs Mexican Restaurant in Antlers.
Hosted by the Oklahoma Farm Bureau Legal Foundation, the Oklahoma Cattlemenâs Association and AFR, the meeting is intended to provide general background information on the lawsuit. The event is not a political forum but instead an education forum organized to explain the lawsuitâs legal process and how the filing will impact citizensâ water rights.
The City of Antlers would like to announce that opening day for the Antlers City Pool will be Friday, June 1st. The pool will be open 6 days a week, Monday-Saturday, and hours of operation will be 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Lifeguards will be on duty at all times. Each lifeguard is Red Cross Certified in life-saving and CPR.
Admission will be $3.00 per person per day. Please note: All infants and children in diapers must wear Little Swimmerâs Diapers. No Exceptions!

The Town & Country Club of Antlers is currently trying to raise funds and accepting donations to replace the old Christmas decorations that adorned the power polls throughout the City of Antlers. Their hope is to replace every decoration with a new 48 inch pre-lit Christmas wreath.
On May 11, 2012, at 11:43 p.m., Officer Stewart Stanfield, was notified by the Antlers Police Department communications that an assault had taken place against an elderly female on âEâ street in Antlers.
Upon arrival, the office made contact with the 63 year old female, Elaine C. Gibson, who stated that she lived at the residence and her grandson, Timothy D. Baker of Antlers, a 22 year old Indian male, had grabbed her hair on the left side of her head and pulled her down to the ground. Gibson declined medical attention.
Mardieth Neil Farrell, of Antlers, was bound over to stand trial following a Preliminary Hearing in front of Judge Gary Brock last week. At the Hearing, the State was represented by Johnny S. Loard, First Assistant District Attorney and Mark Uptegrove, Assistant District Attorney. The defendant was represented by Allen Malone.
On Monday, May 7, 2012 the Antlers City Council held their monthly meeting in City Hall starting at 5:00 p.m. The meeting was called to order and an quorum was established. Minutes and purchase orders were then approved by the council and it was on to the first order of business.
The council approved the extension of the Pushmataha Hospitalâs mortgage modification agreement with FirstBank until May 31, 2012. They also approved a lease agreement with Ron Potter for the municipal pool concessions area.
