February sales tax told

March 22, 2012

Antlers received $100,136 in sales tax disbursements in February, an increase over the $95,522 received in February of last year. Antlers also received a use tax disbursement of $5,352 in February, down from the $6,184 received in February of last year.

Clayton received a $40,416 sales tax disbursement in February, up from the $29,059 received in February of 2011.

Rattan received a sales tax disbursement of $1,530 in February, a decrease from the $2,116 received last February.

Second man found guilty of murder by jury

All last week the Pushmataha County Courthouse played host to the second of four trials of individuals charged with the murder of Robert Strickland of Hugo. This crime took place in April of 2010 and crime scenes were located in Choctaw, McCurtain and Pushmataha Counties. Twelve O.S.B.I. Agents and over 30 law enforcement officers, belonging to multiple agencies in the three counties, were involved in these investigation.

Storms prove dangerous for motorists

Signaling a changing of the seasons, Mother Nature battered north Texas and much of eastern Oklahoma on Monday and Tuesday, creating flooding conditions in many areas. Including Dumpling Creek, near Antlers on Ethel Road, where an unfortunate motorist got swept away in the rising water.

2012 Miss RHS crowned March 17th

On the evening of March 17, 2012, a new Miss RHS was chosen after a magnificent night full of excitement! Mrs. Dana House, Principal at Rattan School, welcomed everyone to the 21st Annual Miss RHS Scholarship Pageant. The show opened with the contestants and reigning Miss RHS 2012, Carleigh Crowley, thrilling the audience by performing a dance to “Runway”.

The new Miss RHS 2012 is Miss Stepheney Haddox, a freshman and the daughter of Mark and Becky Rosa and Steve Haddox. She was escorted by Landon Carper, a junior and the son of Bill Carper and Chrystal Carper.

Pushmataha Hospital to host blood drive

March 15, 2012

The Oklahoma Blood Institute and Pushmataha Hospital in Antlers are partnering in a blood drive from 12-Noon until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. All healthy adults, and 16 and older, are encouraged to donate at the hospital in the Multipurpose room. All blood doners will receive a donor T-shirt, free health screening and donor reward points.

With the unseasonably warm weather that has taken place this winter, we have seen some strong storms that have produced tornadoes already this year in parts of Oklahoma. With spring weather arriving before the official start of Spring and the threat of tornadoes grows stronger, looming in the air with every storm, many insurance agencies have been releasing reminders with Tornado Tips for Motorist.

Push Co OSU Extension offers two scholarships for graduating Seniors

The Oklahoma Home and Community Education Scholarship is a $500.00 scholarship available to a graduating Senior who is enrolled in college or vo-tech for the fall 2012 semester. One scholarship is available to a graduating senior in each of the schools in Pushmataha County. Deadline is April 27th.

Governor Fallin Signs Supplemental Funding Bill

Governor Mary Fallin signed into law Senate Bill 1959, which provides $92.5 million in emergency supplemental funding for needs in education, public safety, natural disaster relief, and at the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office. The governor released the following statement:

Pushmataha Co. to Receive Funding for Bridge Repair

State Rep. R.C. Pruett joined state Sen. Jerry Ellis and Pushmataha County commissioners Michael Brittingham, Jerry Duncan and Jimmy Long in thanking Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management Director Albert Ashwood for $100,000 in state emergency aid for the repair of bridges and low-water crossings that were flooded in November 2011.

Ashwood said the state can provide up to $100,000 in aid for state disaster declarations that are not big enough to warrant federal aid.

Miss RHS to take place March 17th

The twenty first annual Miss Rattan High School Scholarship Pageant will be held on March 17, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Rattan Gymnasium. Eleven beautiful and talented young ladies will be competing for the crown of Miss Rattan High School (RHS) and over $9,000.00 in scholarships and prizes.

The night will begin with the contestants performing to this year’s hit, “Runway.” The contestants are judged on interview, introduction, talent and evening gown.
