AHS Color Guard "bags up" cash at fundraiser

The Pride of Antlers Marching Band’s Color guards recently held a fundraiser at Sonic in Antlers to raise money to help pay for camp and new equipment. Thanks to the generosity of Sonic, Matt, the manager, and the public they managed to raise almost $750.00.

Tri-County Crafts Fair has small turnout

On Friday and Saturday, March 9th and 10th, the Tri-County Crafts and Ect. Fair took place at the Pushmataha County Fair Building in Antlers. Somewhat smaller than last year, due to venders canceling at the last moment, there wasn’t as much for guest to look at but there was still plenty of handmade goods for them to purchase. The Florence OHCE was in charge of the kitchen for the two day event.

Head Start is "Under the Big Top"

On Friday, March 9th, 2012, the Little Dixie Head Start celebrated “Under The Big Top” and “Dad’s Day.” The children and teachers dressed up like they were part of the circus and dads were invited to spend the day with their kids and help out.

The Antlers City Pound has a few new guests staying with them this week that would love to be a part of your family. There are a total with 6 dogs ready for adoption. There are 3 black and white puppies, two male and one female, that are part hound; one mid-length haired small male dog of unknown breed, and two mid-sized dogs, both breeds unknown. If you have any questions, think one of these animals might be yours, or are interested in adopting them please contact Antlers City Hall at 580-298-3274.

Rattan High to host blood drive

The Oklahoma Blood Institute and Rattan High School are partnering in a blood drive from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. All healthy adults, and 16 and older, are encouraged to donate at 100 W. Main Street to save loves of those in area community hospitals. All blood doners will receive a donor T-shirt, free health screening and donor reward points.

FCCLA participate in FACS Day at the Capitol

Doltinn Brown, Payton Gentry, and Erika Taylor from Antlers High School FCCLA Chapter joined over 350 Family, Career and Community Leaders of America students and advisers at the Oklahoma State Capitol for FACS Day at the Capitol. The day's activities were planned by the Oklahoma Association Teachers of Family and Consumer Sciences and coordinated by Legislative Chairmen Ann Heard and Cindy Franks.

Fallin: Plan is a Game-Changer for Oklahoma

The “Oklahoma Tax Reduction and Simplification Act,” the tax cut plan outlined by Governor Mary Fallin in her State of the State address, was heard last week in the House Appropriations Committee where it passed by a margin of 11-6. The bill is sponsored by House Speaker Kris Steele and Senate President Pro Tempore Brian Bingman. The bill now heads to the House floor before it can make its way to the Senate.

Two charged with distrabution of meth

On Monday, March 5, 2012 Eric Lynn Roden and Natlie Renae Weems, both of Antlers, were charged with the distribution of controlled dangerous substance - methamphetamine, a felony, after selling the drug to an informant of the District 17 Drug Task Force.

On November 9, 2012, members of the Drug Task Force meet with a confidential informant to conduct a controlled by of methamphetamine from Eric Roden, a 25 year old white male. The informant was searched and a video recording device was placed on the informants’ person prior to the sale.

Antlers man charged with rape and incest

On Friday, February 24, 2012, Mardieth Neil Farrell of Antlers was charged with four felony counts. These charges were First Degree Rape, Sodomy, Incest and Sexual Battery.

Due to the sensitive nature, and to protect the victim or victims, court documents for this case are not available at this time.

Farrell will appear in court on March 6, 2012 with proof of counsel. The Preliminary hearing conference is set for March 21, 2012 at 9:30 a.m. with Judge Jana Wallace presiding. A $100,000 bond was placed and if paid no contact with the victim is allowed.

Volunteers needed for "Blue Thumb" Project

The Pushmataha Conservation District is sponsoring a “Blue Thumb Training for New Volunteers” on Friday and Saturday, March 9th and 10th at the Antlers Community Building located at 204 SW 4th Street. Blue Thumb is a water pollution education program that counts on volunteers to perform stream monitoring, screen ground water, and educate the public about pollution prevention.
