Library partners with I.R.S. for tax preparation

February 22, 2013

Antlers Public Library has partnered with the I.R.S. in an attempt to better serve the people. The program is known as Facilitated Self Assistance or FSA. It is a concept designed to provide increased taxpayer access to free tax preparation services and will hopefully empower taxpayers who qualify to do their own returns making them self-sufficient in tax preparation.

Because this service is offered, and the I.R.S. is encouraging E-filing, the library will not have the paper forms available.

House Approves Post-conviction DNA Act

February 22, 2013

Legislation approved unanimously by the Oklahoma House of Representatives would allow an individual who is convicted of a crime to file a motion to request forensic DNA testing of any biological material associated with the crime.

“Oklahoma is currently the only state that does not have a postconviction DNA process in place,” said state Rep. Lee Denney (R-Cushing), the bill’s author. “This legislation creates that process and thus makes it even more difficult for mistakes to fall through the cracks.”
