City hires contractor to pickup brush

The City of Antlers has officially hired a contractor to continue clearing limbs for residents in Antlers.

On Monday, January 6th at the regularly scheduled City Council meeting, the City of Antlers hired Brown’s Tree Service to continue working to clear the City of limbs that fell during the ice storm that hit the area in early December 2013.

The contractors began pick up on Wednesday, January 8th and continue for approximately 4-5 days. The contractors will only pick up debris and brush that is in the city right-a-way by the street.

Conservation Commission announces Cost Share Program

The Oklahoma Conservation Commission has announced Program Year 15 of the state’s Locally-Led Conservation Cost-Share Program. The program began in 1997 with the goal of improving reducing soil erosion and water quality by providing financial assistance to landowners for applying soil and water conservation practices.

At the conservation district’s October board meeting, the local criteria for the program year was selected. The practices that were approved are brush management, ponds, pasture and hay planting, pipeline, pest management, water facility and water well.

Advisory to consumers of E-Cigs and Vapor products

All consumers are advised to use caution when using or considering the use of electronic cigarettes, electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS) and other vapor products.

E-cigarettes/vapor products contain chemicals, including nicotine, which is toxic and highly addictive. Nicotine affects the nervous system and heart and can be absorbed into the body throughinhalation, ingestion and skin contact.

Locals make movie debut

Two of Pushmataha County’s very own have made their movie debut as extras in the paranormal thriller “The Last Word.” The sure to be a hit movie began filming in Shreveport and Mansfield, LA, in November 2013 and is now in post production with hopes of being released by Fall 2014.

The headlining stars of the film include Mike Doyle (Green Lantern, Law and Order/ P.S. I Love You), Erin Cummings (Mad Men/Ice Man/ Dark House and Sean Patrick Flanery (The Boondock Saints/Powder/Saw 3D: The Final Chapter/ Dexter).
