Choctaw Nation partners with County Commissioners on road projects

The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma has partnered with Pushmataha County Commissioner Michael Brittingham to help fix the back part of Ethel Road with an asphalt overlay. The project will cost over $400,000.00.

West Nile Virus Confirmed in Oklahoma

The first cases of West Nile virus (WNV) in Oklahoma have been confirmed in Okfuskee and McIntosh counties. The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) encourages residents to take precautions to reduce the risk of contracting WNV, a mosquito-borne illness. WNV is spread through the bite of the Culex mosquito, which feeds on infected birds and transmits the virus when biting humans, horses, and some other mammals. This type of mosquito increases in numbers during mid to late summer when the temperatures climb and the weather pattern is drier.

Commissioners save jail, City donates funds to help

During a special meeting of of the County Commissioners, Excise Board and Sheriff of Pushmataha County, the group revisited the mounting budget issues facing the Sheriff’s Office for, what was hoped to be, the final time with the goal of finding a solution to the issue while setting in place a plan to keep the County Jail from closing its’ doors.
“I have not hired no attorney,” stated Sheriff Duncan. “Nor do I intend to unless I have to. That could and will be the last resort.”

Governor Mary Fallin Signs Texting While Driving Ban

OKLAHOMA CITY - Governor Mary Fallin today signed House Bill 1965, making it illegal to text and drive in Oklahoma. HB 1965 makes texting while driving a primary offense, meaning law officers will be able to pull over anyone who is texting while operating a vehicle. The penalty will be $100.
The governor, during her State of the State address earlier this year, called on lawmakers to pass a texting while driving ban.

Antlers Public School receives $200,000 in donations to build sports complex

Antlers Public School recently received $200,000 worth of donations to help fund the building of a new multipurpose sporting complex. Antlers Public School added an additional $100,000 to the project from their buildings fund.
FirstBank (Steve and Roberta Burrage) and the Stephenson Foundation (Charles and Peggy Stephenson) have both generously donated $100,000 each to the project.

80 runners/walkers participate in sixth annual Race Against Poverty

HUGO LAKE STATE PARK, Okla. – The sixth annual Race Against Poverty, hosted by Little Dixie Community Action Agency along with numerous community sponsors, drew 80 runners and walkers on Saturday, April 25th, 2015. The event had participants with ages ranging from four to 73. The 5-kilometer Race Against Poverty aims to bring awareness to the plight of impoverished families in our area.

The Pushmataha County Sheriff's Department K9 Nitro has received a ballistic vest thanks to a nationwide GROUPON EVENT that has raised over $335,000.00.
