Commissioners receive $100,000 check for flood damage in 2011

On Friday, March 30, 2012 the Pushmataha County Commissioners were presented with a check for $100,000 from the Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management for bridge repair and low-water crossings that were flooded in November of 2011. Park adds amenities

A collaborative effort and collective vision among community partners has become a reality. The Antlers Walking Trail “Big People’s Park” is close to completion. The City of Antlers, in partnership with the Pushmataha County Turning Point Coalition, has successfully created an outdoor fitness facility to be enjoyed by all.

Horse rescue in need of help

With the economy reeking havoc on the mass majority of businesses and families across the nation, it is no wonder that nonprofit organizations are feeling the crunch as well. They rely on generous donations and gifts from the residents of their community and surrounding areas to stay afloat. With the financial restraints of higher gas prices, food costs and so forth, donations have slowed for one of our own local non-profits.

Pushmataha Kids ‘Kick Butts’

Kids from Antlers, Moyers, Clayton and Rattan Schools took center stage in the fight against tobacco as they joined together for Pushmataha County’s 7th Annual Kick Butt’s Day. Kick Butt’s Day took place from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 29th on the corner of Main and High Street (in front of FirstBank) in Antlers. Not only was this day represented in Pushmataha County, but more than 1,100 events were planned across the nation.

On March 22, 2012, former President of the United States George Bush Sr. stopped in and ate at the Hill Country BBQ in Hempstead, TX. Hill Country BBQ is owned and operated by Jo Ellen Hedgecock Hill, a 1993 graduate of Antlers High School. She is the daughter of Raymond Jr. and Audrey Hedgecock of Antlers. Mr. Bush gave Jo Ellen a U.S. President Brooch and her husband Dan a set of U.S. President cuff links.

Oklahomans for Responsible Water Policy applauds federal action

Oklahomans for Responsible Water Policy (ORWP) today applauded a U.S. Department of Justice decision to remove a water rights lawsuit from the Oklahoma Supreme Court and place it in federal court. DOJ documents filed Mar. 12 state that the stream adjudication suit filed by the Oklahoma Water Resources Board last month should be handled on a federal level, and that the OWRB sued the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations, along with a host of Oklahomans, simply in an attempt to stop those tribes' federal suit against the state over the transfer of water out of Southeast Oklahoma.

Clayton man charged with negligent homicide

On March 27, 2012 charges were filed against Jace B. Cagle, 22, of Clayton, resulting from a vehicular accident that occurred on November 11, 2011 on HWY 271 near Albion. Cagle is being charged with Leaving the scene of an accident involving injury - felony, and negligent homicide using a motor vehicle, misdemeanor.

On November 11, 2011 at approximately 10:02 p.m., Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Tommy Allen was working in Pushmataha County when the dispatcher for Troop E stated that there was an accident on U.S. HWY 271 near Albion.

Excersice stations added to Antlers "Big People's Park"

The City of Antlers has recently started adding workout stations and seating areas at the “Big People’s Park,” located on S.W. “D”. Some of the equipment already in place includes a leg press station, sit-ups and push-up station, biceps and triceps station, ab swivel station and a rowing machine. Also recently put in are seating areas with tables, some without, and trash receptacles.
