With the economic situation impacting our nation, most citizens have felt the financial restrains, not to mention the growing frustration with paychecks that donât seem to stretch as far as they used to.
A local resident, LeAnn Rees, owner and operator or TLR Youth Ranch and Horse Rescue, has seen the impact up close and personal with horrifying realty that she can not turn a blind eye to. In the past six months she has rescued two horses that were in critical condition, or would have been shortly.
Two county post offices are in the cross-hairs of a study involving the closure of 3,700 post offices across the country.
Post offices in Finley and Snow are among 100 in Oklahoma, which are included in this study. According to a press release by the United States Postal Service, the trend towards using online postal services led to a decision to "right size" its retail network. The study will be used to "determine the customer needs," and a retail-replacement option would be offered to those communities affected by office closures.

On Friday, July 22, 2011, Jeff Hamill, a young, attractive, and highly intelligent young man left this world at his own hands after years of battling drug addiction. Jeff was born on October 27th , 1975. He was the son of Shelby Hamill of Rattan Oklahoma and the father of Jagger Hamill, age 9, Talyn Hamill, age 5 and Cash Hamill, age 3, all of Hugo, Oklahoma. He was an accomplished drummer, very charismatic, a wonderful son and an attentive father.

 Antlers-area residents have an opportunity to donate blood from 12-Noon to 6 p.m., Tuesday, August 2 at St. Agnes Catholic Church Parish Hall on 501 E Main Street

Each blood donation at the Pushmataha Hospital drive will save up to three lives. All donors will receive a voucher for two tickets to the Oklahoma City Zoo, a âfeel strong,â zoo-themed T-shirt, and health screenings.

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin signed an executive order on Friday, July 22, 2011 allowing haulers of hay to carry larger loads in their trucks. The order comes in light of the ongoing drought, which has left some farmers without access to hay for livestock.

Current rules restrict haulers of hay to dimensions of 11 feet in width. Governor Fallinâs executive order increases those limits to 12 feet. Because a standard hay bale is six feet in width, this change doubles the amount of hay bales capable of being hauled per truck without a permit.

Saturday, July 23, 2011 members of the OSU Extension Services hosted a âKids-A-Cookinâ class at the Extension Center. The Kids-A-Cookinâ classes show adults that kids can cook and help them identify kid-friendly recipes along with age-appropriate âjobsâ when cooking. Kids-A-Cookinâ also helps older kids identify recipes that appropriate for their age and they can create by themselves. During Saturdays class they made Pumpkin Pudding, Deviled Eggs, Apple Smiles, Tuna Salad Sandwiches and Yo-Fruit.

On Sunday, July 17, 2011 at approximately 10:06 p.m., a 1991 Chevy truck being driven by Luke R. Roberts, a 20 year-old white make from Albion, struck a pedestrian while attempting to yield to an emergency vehicle about 1 mile north and 1 mile east of Clayton on SH2 in Pushmataha County.
According to Trooper reports, the â91 Chevy was traveling northbound and the pedestrian was also walking northbound. The vehicle moved to the right while and hit James Guy Exon, a 61 year-old white male from Clayton, the pedestrian.

As drought conditions continue to worsen across Oklahoma, Governor Mary Fallin has issued an Executive Proclamation banning outdoor burning for much of the state. Oklahoma Forestry Services, a division of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, recommended the ban based upon an analysis of fire activity, wildland fuel conditions and the predicted continued drought as criteria for recommending the ban.

Many of us might not have heard that since 2008Â a Canadian oil company, TransCanada, has been awaiting approval to start construction on an extension project called the Keystone XL Oil Pipeline. This pipeline would extend the companies existing Keystone Pipeline, which currently runs from Alberta, Canada to Cushing, OK, to supply oil to others in Oklahoma and ultimately Port Arthur, TX.

The Oklahoma Rodeo Pageants Council, Inc., host of the Miss Rodeo Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant, has recently announced their upcoming pageant in Oklahoma City. The pageant will be held July 20 through July 23, 2011 and two girls from Rattan will take part in t he pageant representing the 2011 Hugo PRCA Rodeo.
