Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin signed an executive order on Friday, July 22, 2011 allowing haulers of hay to carry larger loads in their trucks. The order comes in light of the ongoing drought, which has left some farmers without access to hay for livestock.

Current rules restrict haulers of hay to dimensions of 11 feet in width. Governor Fallinâs executive order increases those limits to 12 feet. Because a standard hay bale is six feet in width, this change doubles the amount of hay bales capable of being hauled per truck without a permit.

Saturday, July 23, 2011 members of the OSU Extension Services hosted a âKids-A-Cookinâ class at the Extension Center. The Kids-A-Cookinâ classes show adults that kids can cook and help them identify kid-friendly recipes along with age-appropriate âjobsâ when cooking. Kids-A-Cookinâ also helps older kids identify recipes that appropriate for their age and they can create by themselves. During Saturdays class they made Pumpkin Pudding, Deviled Eggs, Apple Smiles, Tuna Salad Sandwiches and Yo-Fruit.

On Sunday, July 17, 2011 at approximately 10:06 p.m., a 1991 Chevy truck being driven by Luke R. Roberts, a 20 year-old white make from Albion, struck a pedestrian while attempting to yield to an emergency vehicle about 1 mile north and 1 mile east of Clayton on SH2 in Pushmataha County.
According to Trooper reports, the â91 Chevy was traveling northbound and the pedestrian was also walking northbound. The vehicle moved to the right while and hit James Guy Exon, a 61 year-old white male from Clayton, the pedestrian.

As drought conditions continue to worsen across Oklahoma, Governor Mary Fallin has issued an Executive Proclamation banning outdoor burning for much of the state. Oklahoma Forestry Services, a division of the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, recommended the ban based upon an analysis of fire activity, wildland fuel conditions and the predicted continued drought as criteria for recommending the ban.

Many of us might not have heard that since 2008Â a Canadian oil company, TransCanada, has been awaiting approval to start construction on an extension project called the Keystone XL Oil Pipeline. This pipeline would extend the companies existing Keystone Pipeline, which currently runs from Alberta, Canada to Cushing, OK, to supply oil to others in Oklahoma and ultimately Port Arthur, TX.

The Oklahoma Rodeo Pageants Council, Inc., host of the Miss Rodeo Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant, has recently announced their upcoming pageant in Oklahoma City. The pageant will be held July 20 through July 23, 2011 and two girls from Rattan will take part in t he pageant representing the 2011 Hugo PRCA Rodeo.

Details attached to the three counts of juvenile pornography that Ronald V. Frey, a 41 year-old man from Antlers, is being charged with have recently be released.
According to officer statements, affidavit of probable cause, on March 28, 2011 Office Jake Merck was contacted by DHS alleging that Frey had molested his 16 year-old niece who has a low IQ. Officer Merck contacted the childâs mother the following day and requested that she come to the police department so that they could discuss the report that he had received.
A personal injury collision occurred at about 11:00 a.m. on July 7, 2011 on state highway 3 approximately 9.5 miles east of Oleta in Pushmataha County.
What happened was that a 2010 Kenworth semi was westbound on the highway when he struck a guardrail and rolled .5 times ending up in the ditch. The semi was being driven by John R. Goterba Jr, a 45 year-old white male from Poland, Ohio.
A fantastic time was had at the Antlers Public Libraryâs âOne World, May Storiesâ summer reading program on June 30th as 32 children and 20 adults learned about England with Ms. Mary.
English-born Marlene presented guests with an impromptu visit where she told stories of her visit by Derek, Tino Turtleâs tour. They also enjoyed crafting a bank, receiving prizes and got to take home a special piggy bank from FirstBank.
Many attendees stayed on after to see the free movie that is shown later in the afternoons at the Antlers Public Library after the Reading Program.
According to the latest statistics released by the Department of Public Safety officials report an increase in traffic fatalities for the month of May 2011.
In the state of Oklahoma, fatalities were up by six deaths in May with a total of 65, compared to the 59 that were totaled in May of 2010. There were 8 motorcyclists and 6 pedestrians who died in crashes, 5 alcohol related fatalities, and the highest daily fatality numbers were linked to Sundays with 14 deaths. There were a total of 5 deathless days in May.
