The Oklahoma Blood Institute and Pushmataha Hospital in Antlers are partnering in a blood drive from 12-Noon until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2012. All healthy adults, and 16 and older, are encouraged to donate at the hospital in the Multipurpose room. All blood doners will receive a donor T-shirt, free health screening and donor reward points.
With the unseasonably warm weather that has taken place this winter, we have seen some strong storms that have produced tornadoes already this year in parts of Oklahoma. With spring weather arriving before the official start of Spring and the threat of tornadoes grows stronger, looming in the air with every storm, many insurance agencies have been releasing reminders with Tornado Tips for Motorist.
The Oklahoma Home and Community Education Scholarship is a $500.00 scholarship available to a graduating Senior who is enrolled in college or vo-tech for the fall 2012 semester. One scholarship is available to a graduating senior in each of the schools in Pushmataha County. Deadline is April 27th.
Governor Mary Fallin signed into law Senate Bill 1959, which provides $92.5 million in emergency supplemental funding for needs in education, public safety, natural disaster relief, and at the Chief Medical Examinerâ€™s Office. The governor released the following statement:
State Rep. R.C. Pruett joined state Sen. Jerry Ellis and Pushmataha County commissioners Michael Brittingham, Jerry Duncan and Jimmy Long in thanking Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management Director Albert Ashwood for $100,000 in state emergency aid for the repair of bridges and low-water crossings that were flooded in November 2011.
Ashwood said the state can provide up to $100,000 in aid for state disaster declarations that are not big enough to warrant federal aid.
The twenty first annual Miss Rattan High School Scholarship Pageant will be held on March 17, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. at the Rattan Gymnasium. Eleven beautiful and talented young ladies will be competing for the crown of Miss Rattan High School (RHS) and over $9,000.00 in scholarships and prizes.
The night will begin with the contestants performing to this yearâ€™s hit, â€śRunway.â€ť The contestants are judged on interview, introduction, talent and evening gown.
The Pride of Antlers Marching Bandâ€™s Color guards recently held a fundraiser at Sonic in Antlers to raise money to help pay for camp and new equipment. Thanks to the generosity of Sonic, Matt, the manager, and the public they managed to raise almost $750.00.
On Friday and Saturday, March 9th and 10th, the Tri-County Crafts and Ect. Fair took place at the Pushmataha County Fair Building in Antlers. Somewhat smaller than last year, due to venders canceling at the last moment, there wasnâ€™t as much for guest to look at but there was still plenty of handmade goods for them to purchase. The Florence OHCE was in charge of the kitchen for the two day event.
On Friday, March 9th, 2012, the Little Dixie Head Start celebrated â€śUnder The Big Topâ€ť and â€śDadâ€™s Day.â€ť The children and teachers dressed up like they were part of the circus and dads were invited to spend the day with their kids and help out.
The Antlers City Pound has a few new guests staying with them this week that would love to be a part of your family. There are a total with 6 dogs ready for adoption. There are 3 black and white puppies, two male and one female, that are part hound; one mid-length haired small male dog of unknown breed, and two mid-sized dogs, both breeds unknown.
