Eunice Marie Mayo was born January 28, 1917 in Snow to Robert Lee and Verna Bell (Chapman) Joslin. She passed from this life April 12, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 94. Eunice married Albert Mayo on October 16, 1945 in Paris, TX. Eunice, affectionately known as Granny to most people, was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Ethel Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting, gardening, and general yardwork. She loved spending time with family and friends.
Orpha Valdorine Coggins was born September 13, 1933 in Moyers to P. T. and Naomi (Plunkett) Turner. She passed from this life April 18, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 77. Valdorine had lived all of her life in Pushmataha County, in Miller & Antlers. She was a member of Westside Baptist Church for many years. Valdorine enjoyed going to church, playing piano, bingo, sewing, & spending time with her family and friends. Most of all, she loved her family, especially her grandchildren. Valdorine was preceded in death by her husband: June Coggins; parents: P. T.
Dorothy Laverne Drinkard, 82, passed from this life on Saturday, April 2, 2011 in South Lake Tahoe, CA. Graveside services were held on Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Rev. Jessie Babcock officiating. Arrangments were entrusted to Prator-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home in Hugo.
Johnny Kenneth Autry was born October 17, 1927 in Broken Arrow to Johnny Annual and Edna (Deatherage) Autry. He passed from this life April 5, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 83. Kenneth served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, aboard the USS Hornet. He later married Ruth Marie Brown on August 14, 1946 in Oklahoma City. Kenneth married again, in December 1974, to Juanita Hampton in Paris, TX. Kenneth was a member of the Antlers Masonic Lodge & he enjoyed logging and working as a mechanic. He could fix just about anything he worked on.
George William Denney was born July 11, 1941 in Jay to J. B. and Zeuilla (Johnson) Denney. He passed from this life March 29, 2011 in Antlers at the age of 69. George loved to travel to Shreveport, LA, and he enjoyed reading the history of Oklahoma and true stories. George was preceded in death by his parents: J. B. & Zeuilla Denney.
Carol Sue Baldwin was born November 17, 1941 in Idabel to Hylo and Evia (Farley) Pitt. She passed from this life March 25, 2011 in Eufaula at the age of 69. Carol married Doyle Hood Baldwin on September 24, 1960 in Hugo and together they raised three children. Carol lived in the Rattan & Antlers communities all of her life. She was a member of Antlers First Baptist Church and enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and friends. Carol was preceded in death by her parents: Hylo & Evia Pitt; two brothers: Hal Pitt and Terry Pitt; and a nephew: Stephen Pitt.
James âCubbyâ Hayden Owens was born February 20, 1939 in Bentley to Berry Bud and Chrystal âCrickâ Neomi (Martin) Owens. He passed from this life March 17, 2011 in Centerpoint at the age of 72. James, often called Cubby, married Dee Daniels on August 22, 1960 in Madill. He was a lifetime cowboy who enjoyed the outdoors, bird and coon hunting and playing dominoes. He loved his horses and dogs and spending time with his family and friends. James was preceded in death by his daughter: Della Marie Owens; and parents: Crick and Bud Owens.
Reverend Larry Keith Lewis was born October 15, 1951 in Hayward, CA, to Alvis and Rachel (Wisener) Lewis. He passed from this life March 14, 2011 in Hugo at the age of 59. Larry Keith Lewis married Rita LaGene Knight August 11, 1970 in Empire, CA, and together they raised two children. Reverend Lewis pastored churches in Nevada, California and Oklahoma. He had been a minister since the age of 17. He was a tax preparer for H&R Block in Muskogee for many years, and was an auctioneer since 1990. Larry was recently retired and living in Rattan.
James Lewis Lamar, 74, of Jumbo passed from this life on March 20, 2011 at the Paris Regional Medical Center in Paris, TX.Â He was born on January 11, 1937 to the late Curtis Lamar and Jonnie Crook Lamar in Woodville. James married Priscilla Henderson on July 17, 1958 in Hugo. James served in the United States Navy for 20 years before retiring as a chief. He then earned his bachelor degree and taught school in Beeville, TX.Â He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Antlers where he served as deacon for several years.Â James enjoyed crafting woodwork out of cedar.
Laura Ellen Davis was born November 1, 1928 near Bethel in one of the early moving towns in Eastern OK, to Calvert M. and Gertie E. (Mouser) Smith. She passed from this life on Friday, March 18, 2011 in Hugo at the age of 82. Laura married Grobin Davis on May 10, 1947, in Fort Smith, AR. They were residents of Oklahoma for the past thirty years. Laura worked as a post office clerk in Wright City and different offices for 20 years; she retired as postmistress of the Rattan Post Office after 3 years.
