Junior Bassmasters to Fish State Tournament
Members of the Pushmataha County Junior Bassmasters Club will travel to Lake Eufaula on Sunday, April 29, 2012 to compete in the 2012 Oklahoma B.A.S.S. Federation Nation Junior Bassmasters State Tournament.
Six members of the club qualified to compete in this yearâ€™s event. In the 11-14 year age group, Jake Nabors and Jordan Haddox will be competing. Four members qualified in the 15-18 year age group. They are Dillan Holiman, Chelsi Thomas, Jessie Shrader and David Atwood.
If you enjoy bass fishing, winning cash, prizes and trophies, then you might want to enter in this yearâ€™s Big Bass Rodeo. The Pushmataha County Sportsman Club will host the 41st Annual Big Bass Rodeo on April 21-22 at Pine Creek Lake. This is the oldest, continuous running big bass tournament in the state and quite possibly the nation. This is the clubâ€™s only fund raising event.
Last Saturday night, coaches, players, parents, and friends gathered to celebrate this 2011/2012 Basketball season. The LadyCats finished their season with a 2nd place trophy from the Talihina Tournament, a Championship Trophy from the Tushka Tournament, Championship trophy from our Antlers Festival, and a District Championship Trophy.
Our Bearcats walked away from this season with a 2nd place trophy from the Tushka Tournament, and Championships of Antlers Festival. Awards received at this year's banquet included:
On Saturday, April 7, thirty members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club competed in bass tournament held on Sardis Lake. It was either feast or famine for most the anglers. Those that were able to locate some bass were able to put together nice stringers while others had difficulty in finding a single keeper.
The Rattan Junior High Baseball team has won their second 1st place trophy of the year at the Hugo Jr. High baseball tournament. In the tournament, the team defeated Atoka, Hugo and Broken Bow. On Saturday, March 17, 2012, the Pushmataha County Junior Bassmasters and Conservation Club held its first fishing tournament of the 2012 season. The tournament was sponsored by the Mills & Coffey Funeral Home in Antlers. The local business donated money that was used to purchase prizes for each youth contestant in the tournament. It was an adult/youth team tournament and was held at McGee Creek Lake. Launch time was at 8:00 a.m. with the weigh-in being held at 2:00 p.m. at the Buster Hight Ramp.
The Antlers Bearcats traveled to Atoka March 29th â€“ 31st to compete in the Atoka Wooden Bat Classic. In the first game, the Bearcats faced the Atoka J.V. team with senior Michael Lampton on the mound. He started the game hot, with three strike outs but the Bearcats didnâ€™t do any better and failed to gain any runners. The second inning found the Wampus Cats unable to score, yet again but Antlers got fired up scoring 10 runs. Chandon Draper, Bryce Carter, Michael Lampton, Timmy Kuykandall, and Caleb Smith all made well placed hits and moved runners.
On Saturday, March 24, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held a bass tournament on Hugo Lake. Twenty-one members competed in the event. With the lake level some fifteen feet above normal elevation, catching a keeper bass, or any bass at all for that matter, proved to be quiet difficult. Only six anglers were able to bring a bass to the scales at weigh-in time.
The Bearcats split a double header Friday night picking up a win against Clayton and a loss to Atoka.
Starting out against the Bulldogs in the 1st inning with two catches by center fielder, Chandon Draper and a strike out by pitcher Dakota Turner the Bearcats were off to a good start. Offensively the Bearcats would score 3 runs with a double hit by Bryce Martin and single from Turner, Drew McKnight, and Arizona Taylor. Draper would draw a walk.
The Pushmataha County 4-H held its annual Speech and Demonstrations contest on Wednesday, March 14th at the United Methodist Church in Antlers. Seventy one 4-Herâ€™s participated in the contest. New county officers were also voted in.
The new officers are: Kat Bailey, Song Leader, Trey Greer, Game Leader, Tyanna Thurman, Recreational Leader, Will Lewis, Reporter, Tiffany Noel, Treasurer, Lindsay Hedrick, Secretary, Colby Watts, Co Vice-President, Dillon Hembree, Co Vice-President and Brandon Alford, President.
