ODOT to shut down HWY 271

July 8, 2014

Starting at midnight Tuesday, July 8, ODOT will close down U.S. Highway 271 near Clayton, to reconstruct the highway that officials say could be dangerous for drivers.

ODOT officials say that U.S. 271, near Clayton, has been an ongoing problem over the past decade.

Officials hope to at least one of the lanes completed and open in the next 40 days.

All drivers are suggested to take State Highway 2 during the duration of the project.

Three confirmed dead after trucks caught fire

Three people are confirmed dead after two semi trucks collided just west of Antlers this afternoon.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says just after 1 p.m. two 18-wheelers traveling northbound collided near mile marker 16 on the Indian Nation Turnpike.

According to OHP, it appears at this time that one was attempting a turn-a-bout, and the other one was attempting to evade the collision, and they struck each other and caught fire. At this time they report three fatalities.

Both the northbound and southbound lanes of the Indian Nation Turnpike, at MM16 (Antlers) are closed due to a two semi collision that has resulted in a fire.

Please find an alternative route to your destinations and be alert.

Local students qualify to compete at largest Junior Rodeo in the world

Jessen James, a 7th grade student at Antlers Public School, and Briar Teague, a 6th grade student at Rattan Public School, have earned positions on the Oklahoma state/provincial National Junior Rodeo team and will be traveling with fellow teammates to Des Moines, IA., June 22-28, to compete at the 10th annual National Junior High Finals Rodeo (NJHFR).
Jessen qualified in the team roping, breakaway and ribbon roping competitions.
Briar qualified in the team roping competition.

Moyers 4-H to Host Homecoming Fish Fry

The Moyers 4-H club members, along with their leader Tonya McKnight would like to personally invite you to the annual homecoming fish fry. The festivities will begin at 6:00 P.M., Saturday, June 14th on the lawn west of Miller Office Supply.
$6.00 donation: deliciously prepared fish, hushpuppies, coleslaw, baked beans, and dessert served by pleasant, smiling Moyers 4-H members and their parents, helping to satisfy your taste buds.
Don’t forget to bring your lawn chairs, as you might want to stay awhile.

Captain Curtis Ogle (commanding) and the 20th Regiment Texas Cavalry (Dismounted), in conjunction with the Captain Bob Lee Camp (2198 Sons of Confederate Veterans) will once again make their presence known in Antlers by participating in our annual homecoming events.

Depot to celebrate 100 years

The Frisco Depot, located in Antlers, will celebrate 100 years on Saturday, June 14th, during the homecoming celebration. The celebration will take place all day. Make sure to stop out and see an amazing part of Antlers rich history.

Recycling is coming back to Antlers

Charley Deupree, owner of H20 Depot in Antlers, has now opened a recycling center as well.
D2 Recycling, located at 1110 SW 3rd St. in Antlers Industrial Park by Legal Shield and Kiamichi Technology Center, will buy all types of aluminum, copper, brass, car batteries, radiators, air conditioners, scrap iron, and of course, aluminum cans.
D2 Recycling hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Give them a call at 580-298-5900 (for either business).
