Library presented $25,000 to make a difference

On Wednesday, June 20, 2012 supporters, volunteers and local officials gathered together at the Antlers Public Library to help Director Patti Lehman celebrate receiving a very large check, in size and amount, from State Farm®.

Farmer's Market welcomes sellers

The Antlers Farmer's Market is once again open and ready for business. The Farmer’s Market is open for operation every Wednesday and Saturday from 8:00 a.m. until Noon. It is located across the street from The Convenience Center in Antlers.

Until the end of August, they are running a special to encourage farmers and gardeners to come out and sell their produce for profit.

“If you over planted, your plants produced more then you expected or you just want to make some extra cash, why not sell at the Farmer’s Market?,” said Shawn Long with PDI.

State’s compliance rate for underage tobacco sales drop

The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) announced today the results of its annual inspection of tobacco outlets to measure compliance with laws restricting underage tobacco sales. This year’s compliance rate of 6.8 percent is the lowest ever for the state.

Rattan Fire Department wins 4th time

On June 2nd, 2012, the Rattan Fire Department won the Choctaw County Fire Fighters Challenge in Hugo. This is their fourth consecutive win. Sardis tournament draws 22 anglers

On Saturday, June 23, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held a bass tournament on Sardis Lake. Twenty-two members competed in the tournament. The weather was clear and hot, with temperatures in the mid-nineties and light winds. Fourteen members were able to catch at least one keeper bass, with three bass over five pounds weighed in.

Winship selected for All-State softball and All-Star basketball

Lyndsi Winship, Rattan 2012 Graduate, played in the 20th Annual 2012 Slow-Pitch All-State Softball game at OU on the 3A-4A East Team on June 16, 2012. At this time, Coach Paul Watts also received a plaque for 3A-4A Coach of the Year. She also participated in the 40th Annual Kiamichi All-Star Classic Basketball Game on Saturday, May 26 at Eastern Oklahoma State College where Coach Chris Gibbs and Assistant Coach Dana House escorted her during her introduction. Lyndsi was also selected to the 17th Annual Oklahoma Indian All-State Basketball First Team.

Mattingly selected as first team Indian All-State

Jacob Mattingly, a Moyers graduate, was recently selected as first team Indian All-State in basketball. Jacob pictured here with his coach Shane Winters. Jacob was also recognized for All-State Indian Academic team. The game took place at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, OK this past weekend. Jake scored 7 points and his team (the south) won game 100-95.

Local Business Owner Receives 2012 Entrepreneurial Success Award

Darren Couch, owner of Elite Construction & Fabrication located in Antlers, was selected as the recipient of the 2012 Oklahoma Entrepreneurial Success Award.

This award is presented by the U.S. Small Business Administration and recognizes business leaders in the community who began as a small business and later developed into a larger business. Such growth equates to more jobs and an improved local economy.

Officer's car set on fire

Early Sunday morning, June 17, 2012, an Antlers Police officer’s personal vehicle was set on fire. The vehicle was located in the side parking area, in the alley, next to the Police Department. Edwina Manon “Nonnie” (Harper) Horn

Edwina Manon Horn was born April 7, 1955 in Antlers to Edwin and Laverne (Bell) Harper. She passed from this life June 18, 2012 in Tulsa at the age of 57. Manon was a member of Antlers First Baptist Church. She was involved in Relay for Life and enjoyed reading, antiquing, Scrabble, camping, & gardening. Manon loved spending time with her family and friends. Manon was preceded in death by her grandparents: Vida & Doyle Bell; and a brother: Paul Harper.
