Deputies forced to wrestle man into custody

Pushmataha County Deputies were forced to wrestle an Antlers man to the ground in order to place him into custody after resisting arrest following a traffic stop on “E” Street in Antlers last Wednesday, July 11th.

County Deputy Shawn Culver and Deputy Russell Bailey were traveling south on N.E. “E” Street when he noticed a blue Ford Explorer that was also heading south but was in the opposite lane. When the deputy caught up to the vehicle he activated his lights and the vehicle came to a stop.

Council member passes after 24 years of service

The recent passing of a Pushmataha County resident has deeply impacted many in the community and throughout the county. Roy Earl Jackson was a very active citizen who loved this county, country and the people in it.

Roy served his community by being a member of the Antlers City Council for 24 years (since 1988) and he also served as the Mayor of Antlers for 19 years. Not only was he a civil servant, he was also a small business owner in our community. He was the owner of Jackson Motors, a staple business in Antlers for many years.

Six thrown from vehicle after driver fell asleep

After the driver of a 2003 Chevy Trailblazer fell asleep at the wheel, six were thrown from the vehicle after it rolled once and came to rest on it’s wheels.

The driver, Jelena Cureington, a 33 year-old, white female from Tulsa, departed the roadway to the left into the median, over corrected causing the vehicle to depart the roadway to the right where the vehicle rolled once and came to rest on it’s wheels. With the exception of the driver and two passengers, all of the others were ejected from the vehicle in various directions and distances.

Antlers man faces 5 felony charges

On July 2, 2012, Bryan Ross Council, a 27 year old male from Antlers, was charged with Burglary in the first degree, Aggravated assault and battery, two counts of Assault with a dangerous weapon and Domestic assault and battery by strangulation.

On June 30, 2012, Council broke into an Antlers residence being occupied by Terri Bridges. According to reports, Council forcibly entered the front door by kicking it in without the permission of Bridges.

Council also assaulted Bridges with a claw hook weapon and strangled her with his hands in an attempt to cause her great bodily harm.

Officers seize over 65 marijuana plants

On July 3, 2012, a search warrant was served on the residence of Howard Harty, a 70 year old white male of Ringold, by Drug Task Force Officer B.J. Hedgecock and Pushmataha County Sheriff Deputies John Arthur and Culver. When officers entered the residence no subjects were present in the residence.

Roy Earl Jackson

Roy Earl Jackson was born December 13, 1930 in Antlers to Roy and Nora Mae (Labor) Jackson. He passed from this life July 8, 2012 in Paris, TX, at the age of 81. Roy served his country in the United States Coast Guard during the Korean Conflict. He was a car salesman in Antlers for many years, owning Jackson Motors. He married Bernice Thomas on August 19, 2000 at Antlers First Baptist Church. He had served on the City Council since 1988 and was the Mayor of Antlers for 19 years.

Joseph George Malakowsky

Joseph George Malakowsky was born October 13, 1947 in Longview, WA., to Harvey and Geraldine (Guyon) Malakowsky. He passed from this life July 5, 2012 in Plano, TX., at the age of 64. Joseph married Barbara Ann Edwards October 10, 1969 in Murphy, TX. Joseph served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and Korean War as a Seargent First Class (E-7). During his military career, he served as a Drill Seargent, on the Tunnel Team DMZ, instructor at West Pointe and as an advisor for the national guard.

Cathie Laverne Robbins Greer Loftin

Cathie Laverne Loftin was born on November 23, 1942 to the late Dorothy (Walker) and Vernon Robbins in Black Fork, OK. She passed from this life on Monday, July 2, 2012 in Garland, TX., at the age of 69. Cathie was from the Nashoba area, but passed in Garland where she spent her last few weeks with her daughter. She was a very classy lady. She loved to cook but loved to eat it even more. She was a wonderful mother to her two daughters Robbi Dawn and Cathie Dale. She loved being a nanny. Cathie loved life. She liked to travel and spend time with her family and friends.

Charlotte Lorriane Powell, 52, of Antlers, passed from this life on Friday, June 29, 2012. Charlotte was born January 20, 1960 in New Orleans, LA. to Charlotte Anna (Scallen) and Fredrick James Simolke. She was a heavy equipment operator. She was preceded in death by: Her Father. She is survived by: her mother, Charlotte Anna Simolke of Bogota, TX.; daughter, Christina Michelle Davis of Hope, AR.; Grandchildren, Katrina Powell of Prescott, AR.

Madge Brock Glass

July 5, 2012

Madge Brock Glass was born on July 7, 1919 to Isaac and Stella Boland Brock in Konawa. She passed from this life on July 2, 2012 at her home in Broken Bow at the age of 92. A homemaker, Madge had lived off and on in McCurtain County for several years, moving back to Broken Bow from Antlers two years ago. She was a member of the Church of Christ and enjoyed gardening, dominoes, quilting, antiques and fishing.
