JR Bassmasters Compete in State Tournament

On Sunday, April 29, five of the Pushmataha County Junior Bassmasters traveled to Lake Eufaula to compete in the 2012 Oklahoma State Championship of the B.A.S.S. Junior Bassmasters. Competing in the 15-18 year old category were anglers: Jessie Shrader, David Atwood and Dillan Holiman. Representing the Push County club in the 11-14 year old group was Jake Nabors and Jordan Haddox.

Hugo Lake Team Bass Tournament draws in 27 anglers

On Saturday, May 5, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held a team bass tournament on Hugo Lake. Twenty-seven anglers competed in the tournament. The lake level was near normal and the weather was cooperating with clear to party cloudy skies, warm temperatures and breezy conditions. These conditions allowed a few anglers to put together some nice stringers of bass.

Push resident critical after collision

On May 2, 2012 at approximately 5:42 p.m. Cristy Kyle, a 34 year old white female from Tuskahoma, was transported by ambulance to Talihina Hospital where she was then flown by Life Flight to St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa where she was listed in critical condition with multiple injuries.

The collision occurred on HWY 63 at Buffalo Valley in Latimer County. The driver of the vehicle, Robert Morris, a 36 year old white make from Whitesboro, was also transported to Talihina and then flown to St. John’s Hospital in Tulsa. He was listed in stable condition with internal injuries.

Woman critical after collision

An injury collision landed 50 year old Maxine F. Hicks, of Hugo, in critical condition on Saturday, May 5, 2012. The collision occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on HWY 271 just 6 miles south of Antlers in Pushmataha County.

Hicks, the driver of a 2005 Chevy Equinox, fell asleep at the wheel and ran off the roadway to the left striking an embankment and then a utility pole.

She was transported from the scene by Eagle Med Air Ambulance to St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. She was listed in critical condition with head, arms, legs and trunk internal and external injuries.

E. D. Nation

E.D. Nation, fondly known as “Cowboy,” was born October 23, 1931, in Miller to Elisha Dyer Nation and Victoria Pauline (Parker) Nation. He passed from this life April 27, 2012, in Antlers at the age of 80. E.D. enjoyed friends and coffee. He raised cattle and horses and liked to tinker. He ran Playday and the Rodeo for Pushmataha County, was on the Fair Board, Masonic Lodge 32nd degree, and attended First Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. E.D.

Shirley Clark-McBride

Shirley Jean Clark-McBride was born January 27, 1957 in Hugo to Argle James and Charlene (Breedlove) Clark. She passed from this life April 30, 2012 in Oklahoma City at the age of 55. Shirley was a lifelong resident of the Antlers area. She had worked for the Antlers Manor Nursing Home as Housekeeper & Laundry Supervisor for over 20 years. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, but especially loved being with her grandkids. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents: Argle & Charlene Clark; brother: Allen Clark; sisters: Connie Lynn Clark and Susan Renae Clark.

Johnny Lee Heffner

Johnny Lee Heffner was born April 19, 1944 in Antlers to Lloyd Jewell and Alta (Day) Gilliam. He passed from this life April 24, 2012 in Antlers at the age of 68. Johnny served his country in the United States Army from 1966-1968 in HQ 6th Battalion (HAWK), 65th Artillary in Key West, FL, during the Vietnam War. He obtained the rank of SP4 and had training in Code of Conduct, Military Justice, ATP 21-114, Traffic Safety, CBR Training, and EMC. Johnny enjoyed hunting and fishing, and socializing with his friends over coffee.

Bobbie Lee Garman

Bobby Lee Garman was born November 1, 1937 in Kellond to Roy Ernest and Ethel Loretta (Haws) Garman. He passed from this life April 26, 2012 in Antlers at the age of 74. Bobby was a lifelong resident of the Antlers area. He married Anna Faye Shirley on July 7, 1956 in Hugo and together, they raised three children. Bobby worked as a Foreman for the Frisco Railroad for 20 years, retiring in 1990. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and raising animals. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Texas woman killed in one vehicle collision on HWY 2

On Saturday, April 28, 2012, a collision approximately 5 miles north of Moyers on Sate Highway 2 in Pushmataha County claimed the life of a Paris, TX resident.

At 10:00 a.m., a 2004 Honda Accord being driven by Martha Jo Masters, a 69 year-old white female, was northbound on HWY 2 when the vehicle ran of the roadway to the right. The driver then over-corrected and departed the roadway to the left and struck an embankment causing the vehicle to roll half a time, coming to rest on its top/ A passerby stopped and assisted the driver out of the vehicle.
