Antlers 6th grade girls basketball team named champs!

The Antlers Obuch Middle School’s 6th grade girls basketball team recently participated in the Rattan Invitational 2012 Elementary Tournament. The girls brought home the Championship! Players pictured are: Brooke Lampton, Madeline Smallwood, Winter Johnson, Taia Harris, Kaylea Bailey, Stormi Freeman, Taylor Breshears and Elissa Frazier.

Albert M. Brown

Albert McKinley Brown was born on May 11, 1932 to Jerry McKinley and Hattie (Wood) Brow of Tishomingo. He passed from this life on January 28, 2012 in Antlers at the age of 79. Albert and his family moved to the Antlers area in 1938. Albert married his best friend, Maxine Morrison Brown, on September 26, 1956 in Rattan and was a doting, devoted husband their entire marriage. He always strived to take the very best care of everyone he came in contact with and was the consummate country gentleman.

Eugene L. Cannon

February 2, 2012

Eugene L. Cannon was born April 19, 1949 in Antlers to Loyd & Etta (Maxey) Cannon. He passed from this life January 18, 2012 in Hugo at the age of 62. Eugene had worked bailing hay and logging. His passion for many years was the salvage yard. He married Nancy (Tindell) on January 20, 1969. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents: Loyd & Etta Cannon; and his wife of 33 years, Nancy. He is survived by their only child: Beverly Hamilton and her husband, Ray, of Moyers. Interment was at Darwin Cemetery.

Curtis Sappington

Curtis Sappington was born December 27, 1929 in Stoddard County, MO., to Mr. & Mrs. Toyler. He passed from this life January 31, 2012 in Paris, TX, at the age of 82. Curtis married Joann Hamill November 6, 1977 in Bakersfield, CA. He liked going to church and reading his Bible, & working at the tire shop. He also enjoyed camping and fishing and riding his great-grandchildren around with him in his wheelchair. Most of all, he loved spending time with his wife, grandkids, & friends.

Lavonne Henderson Robinson

Lavonne Novelle (Miller) Goforth Henderson Robinson was born March 2, 1939 in Sawyer to Harry “Boyd” Miller and Marie Novelle (Minchew) Miller. She passed from this life on January 26, 2012 in McAlester at the age of 72. Lavonne was a Medical Technologist and was the director of the Choctaw Memorial Hospital Lab for many years.  She was a member of the JC Janes in the 60’s & 70’s, a Girl Scout leader, member of the VFW Auxiliary, and member of the Sawyer Rural Water Board.  She liked to crochet, cross stitch, quilt and loved her horses.

Jewell G. Haddox

Jewell Geneva Haddox was born October 15, 1922 in Miller to Wade and Villie (Janway) Hedrick. She passed from this life on January 26, 2012 in Hugo at the age of 89. Jewell was raised in Pushmataha County where she attended school at Hall community. Later she met and married her husband of 45 years, Joe Haddox, in June of 1942 in Antlers. After spending a couple of years in California they returned to Pushmataha County for a short time before moving to Oklahoma City for 18 years.

Thelma Henard

Thelma “Nanny Moose” Henard was born on May 1, 1938 in Antlers to Lee & Lillie (Kirk) Martin. She passed from this life January 24, 2012 in Antlers at the age of 73. Thelma married Ron Henard on February 25, 1983. They had remained married for 28 years. During their marriage, they shared their life in Branson, MO; Oklahoma City, and spent the last two years in Antlers. Thelma was of the Assembly of God faith. Her most precious times were spent with her family and friends. Thelma enjoyed playing with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they were the light of her life.

4-H members "Share in The Fun"

The 2012 Pushmataha County 4H Share The Fun was held on January 28th in Clayton. Family and friends came out to show support and cheer on all the kids performances. With so many great performing acts in singing, piano, comedic skits and dancing it was hard to pick the winners.

The Grand Champion Solo Act went to Lauren Gibson with her singing “Blessings” by Laura Story. Lauren is from Antlers. Reserve Grand Champion went to Braylee Reneau with her singing of “The House That Built Me.” Braylee is from Clayton.

Letter to the Editor: Chickasaw & Choctaw Nations speak out about water plan

Letter to the Editor:

Chickasaws and Choctaws share many things with other Oklahomans, including the desire to pave the way for a better future for our children and grandchildren.
 
We, the Chickasaw and Choctaw Nations, are currently working with, among others, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to develop a regional water plan.  Having a science-based plan is critical to sustainable management of water resources to support economic development, recreation, household use and to provide for the environmental health of our lakes, rivers and streams.

Tedder named Homecoming Queen

The Antlers Bearcats and Lady Cats celebrated their 2011-2012 Basketball Homecoming & Senior Night on Friday, January 27, 2012. The 2011-2012 Antlers Homecoming Basketball Queen is Taylor Tedder and the King is Dakota Turner. The Lady Cats fell to Atoka Lady Wampus Cats, but the Bearcats walked away with a victory against the Wampus Cats.
