Governor Fallin to President Obama: Approve Keystone Pipeline Now

On Monday, January 16, 2011, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin sent a letter to President Barack Obama asking him to immediately approve the development of TransCanada’s Keystone XL Pipeline, a project which would transport tar sands from Canada to multiple points within the United States, including the Gulf of Mexico. Under current law, the president has until February 21 to declare the pipeline “not in the national interest” or it is automatically approved.

Starting Friday, January 6, 2012 many of the local area schools traveled to Tushka to compete in their Basketball Tournament.

Town Hall meeting to be held on changing hunting and fishing rules

Local sportsmen have the opportunity to voice their thoughts online now through January 13, 2012, regarding hunting and fishing related rule change proposals currently under consideration. They are also encouraged to attend the Wildlife Department’s town hall meeting on Thursday, January 12th. 2012 at the Wildlife Heritage Center Museum in Antlers at 7:00 p.m.

David M. Milam

January 9, 2012

David M. Milam was born April 27, 1940 in Broken Bow to Eugene and Grace (Cotney) Milam. He passed from this life January 4, 2012 in Antlers at the age of 71. David proudly served his country in the United States Navy, retiring on November 2, 1984. He married Karen Kay Parks on February 14, 2009 in Honolulu, HI. David had been a resident of the Antlers area for the past 35 years. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, & spending time with his family and friends. David was preceded in death by his parents: Eugene & Grace Milam; and his wife: Judy Milam.

Donald Masters

Donald R. “Don” Masters was born on September 19, 1940 to Walter B. and Eunice (McAllister) Masters of Antlers. He passed from this life on January 4, 2012 in Benton, AR., at the age of 71. Donald was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, a member of Highway Church of Christ and in construction business. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter B. and Eunice Masters; a son, David Masters, and two sisters, Jenelle Bradford and Wanda Lou Palmer.

Tigers win in consolation round

The Moyers Tigers have been busy this past week with basketball play.  Let's start with Bennington.  The Lady Tigers came out strong in the first half.  They played good zone defense and kept the score close in the first half.  In the second half, the Bears found their groove and the lady Tigers fell 45-25. Shelby Geary lead the scoring with 18, Calli Winters with 4, Shelby Clark with 1, and Carrie Collins with 2.

January Meeting of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club

Members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club will hold their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, January 12. The club normally meets at 7:30 p.m. at the Wildlife Heritage Center and Museum. However, the club has agreed to postpone its meeting time to allow the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife to host a public meeting on proposed wildlife regulation changes. Their meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Wildlife Heritage Center. The Pushmataha County Sportsman Club members will meet immediately after the public meeting.

American Cancer Society Seeks Volunteers for Local Relay For Life Event
 
As you consider how you can make a difference in the coming year, consider joining the fight against cancer by volunteering for Relay For Life, an event that benefits the American Cancer Society’s mission to eliminate cancer.  Volunteer positions are still available, and more information about these volunteer opportunities will be provided at the next Relay For Life planning meeting on February 2nd, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. at the AmeriState Conference Room in Antlers.

Rattan Public School welcomes new superintendent

On Wednesday, January 4, 2012, Rattan Public School welcomed a new superintendent to their administration team, Mrs. Shari Pillow. Mrs. Pillow came to us from Comanche County in Southwestern Oklahoma, where she had lived all of her life. After her and her husband Bobby purchased a place close to Rattan, she heard about Rattan’s previous superintendent, Bruce Lawless’s, retirement.
