The 2012 tax filing season opened Jan. 17, so if you have not started yet, it is time to gather up all those receipts and other tax documentation. Last year, 77 percent of all individual tax returns were e-filed as opposed to filling out the paper forms and mailing them to the Internal Revenue Service. That is more than 112 million returns done online.

June 22, 2010 will forever go down in history as the first time in America that words like mild, medium, low, ultra-light, etc., cannot be legally used to market the sale of cigarettes. What is the proper thing to do when you are being pulled over?
Well, if you are being stopped by law enforcement, pull to the right side of the road. I usually know where I want someone to stop their vehicle. Some people pull in to a driveway on the opposite side of the roadway or keep driving because they know a better spot to stop at. Just pull over to the right side of the roadway and stop.

Horse owners who use heated barns to keep water from freezing and to protect horses from cold temperatures during winter should remember supplemental heat can cause problems if used incorrectly.
Ventilation is important when horses are kept inside a barn, said Dave Freeman, Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension equine specialist.
“Closing up a barn to maintain heat may increase respiratory diseases because of high ammonia content and bacterial growth in stalls,” Freeman said.

People combat cold weather by putting on additional clothing; horses fight the elements by using more energy to maintain body temperature. But while most people can address their own needs, horses are dependent upon their owners to provide proper nutrition and protection from the weather, said Dave Freeman, Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension equine specialist.

The middle of winter has long been a time of celebration around the world. Centuries before the arrival of the man called Jesus, early Europeans celebrated light and birth in the darkest days of winter. Many peoples rejoiced during the winter solstice, when the worst of the winter was behind them and they could look forward to longer days and extended hours of sunlight.

Hunters in Oklahoma are in the middle of their first month of the two-month pheasant season, and some may have noticed a decline in population numbers.
Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension wildlife specialist, Dwayne Elmore, said the numbers are down this year due to the drought and excessive heat that much of the state experienced throughout the summer.
“There was little chick production, but we do have some carry over adult birds available for hunting,” he said.
