By Cary Ammons

Welcome back students! School starts Monday, August 22nd! Faculty and staff are preparing for another great year at Antlers.

With the start of a new year, some new changes are happening. The new Antlers Elementary Building has been completed and 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades will be attending class in there. Please be advised that the pick-up and drop-off zone will be different as well. If you plan on visiting with your child’s teacher, please us the new parking lot or park along the road and not with the new drop-off/pick-up zone.

I Didn’t Do It Officer!

August 10, 2011

By Tracy Steffenson

Sometimes I stop and wonder if anyone else notices some of the same circular irony of the saying, “Weak and low self-esteem people will belittle others to boost their own ego,” when it dawned on me just how many times a day I am accused of crimes I didn’t commit.

Healthy lunches help make a great school day

August 10, 2011

By Beth Pike, OSU Extension Services - Antlers

Even though the weather is warm and the local pools are still open, it is not too early to start thinking about packing those school lunch bags. Many children simply prefer eating a lunch from home. This is great because parents can have greater control over what their child is eating.

Remembering transistor radios

July 25, 2011

So funny, found out what my eight year old granddaughter wants for Christmas. Well it's on the list :) She is asking for a touch IPod. Now given the fact I have already started working on a quilt for her, this want just might not come from grandma.

Overspending on silly Birthdays for 5 year-olds

July 25, 2011

By Shirley Taylor

I have noticed when my grandkids go to birthday parties they come home with a small bag of gifts. What's up with that? I remember when I was small and I'd go to a birthday party I'd take a gift and come home with nothing but memories of having a great time. There was cake and ice cream. We'd pin the tail on a donkey and have a blast.

Look Mom, I got a medal! Rethinking the self esteem movement

July 14, 2011

By Tracy Steffenson

Has anyone really taken the time to look around lately and see what we are all doing to our children, well you not me as I have no kids. When your child competes in, lets say, an olympics type of scenario and comes home with a double gold medal something is wrong.

I'M OUT! Done With Political Correctness

July 6, 2011

By Tracy Steffenson

I would like to time travel back to the late 80’s for a moment. When I was a kid, and got tired of playing a game everyone else was playing, all I would have to say is “I’m out!” and they would all leave me alone. Well I would like to try this for all the people who yell racist at the drop of a hat, “ I AM OUT!”
