Letter to the Editor

November 8, 2012

My wife and I retired from Wichita, KS nearly 8 years ago. We have greatly missed a newspaper that informs about local issues and politics before time to vote. We greatly appreciate the latest paper's information on the candidates and the questions on the ballot . You have transformed the paper into a publication worth reading.

Tea Party News: Elections over, please pick up campaign signs

November 8, 2012

By Butch Morris

By the time this article is in print, the elections will be over. I hope next week’s article will be in praise of conservative candidates elected into office and not lamenting the reelection of liberal candidates.

One good thing, win, loose or draw, will be the elimination of campaign ads. For a while. And those pesky signs. I don’t know about y’all but I’m ready. Speaking of signs, if you have put any out for your candidate, pick them up. Folks may not say anything but they appreciate it.

Dear Editor:

November 8, 2012

On Tuesday, Nov. 6, we, the voting public of Pushmataha County have the opportunity to maintain growth in our county by voting to continue the County Wide 3/4 cent sales tax for the Hospital. We all hope we never need the hospital, but it is good to know that it is there if we do need it. With Mr. Steve Burrage as the CEO, the hospital will once again be the hospital we had in the past. the hospital provides a huge economic impact on our county in the way of jobs. And with these jobs, the employees of the hospital will be utilizing the businesses in Pushmataha County.

Tea Party News

The Push for a Better America monthly meeting was held last Friday night and I must say it was a good one. We had a good turnout for our six guest speakers.

Larry Joslin was our MC for the evening. I spoke for the extension of the 1/4 cent tax for the Fire Departments. Kenneth Blan went over the state questions for us.

Carroll Bone from the Choctaw County Conservative group talked to us about the judges on the ballot. As Carrol pointed out, this is a tough one to research.

Redcedar trees continue to spread across landscape

October 25, 2012

By OSU Extension Services

Of the nearly 44 million acres that make up Oklahoma, more than 12.6 million are forested.

These forested areas are beneficial to the state. Unfortunately, the extremely invasive eastern redcedars are spreading like wildfire into areas where they have no business, like rangelands and pastures. It was estimated in 1950 that redcedars and other junipers covered approximately 1.5 million acres of the state. By 1983, 3.5 million acres were taken.

AAA warns motorists of deer on roadway

October 25, 2012

AAA is warning motorists that this is the time of the year more deer will be on Oklahoma’s roadways and to be on the lookout for them, especially at dusk and dawn.

“We’re entering deer mating season and the time when deer are searching for food to build up fat reserves for the winter,” said Chuck Mai, spokesman for AAA Oklahoma. “Plus, deer populations are high in Oklahoma right now – increasing the risk of car-deer collisions. Already this fall, motorists have tragically died in crashes with deer in the state.”

Tea Party News: Tea party supports Republican candidates in upcoming election

October 11, 2012

Tea Party by Butch Morris

I had a good time at the Deer Festival this past weekend. I hope you made it to the fair grounds and found something that interested you.

I did duty at the Tea Party tent which was beside the Republican Party tent. We kinda helped each other. We were there stumping for the Republican candidates in the up coming elections. The Tea Party is behind these candidates because we believe that they represent conservative ideals and are prepared to stand up for these principals.
