With just a few weeks of summer already past, most Oklahomans have been running their air conditioners nonstop for a while now. And as any resident of this state knows, the temperature will not be cooling off for some time.
As the weather warms up, many homeowners see their utility bills rise as well, said Gina Peek, Oklahoma State University Cooperative Extension housing and consumer specialist.
The Level 1 Alcohol, Drug and Substance Abuse Course (A.D.S.A.C.), required to those who have had driving privileges suspended or revoked due to a DUI, DWI, APC or other drug/alcohol related misdemeanor or felony charge, will be presented by Kiamichi Council on Alcoholism and/or Other Drug Abuse, Inc. Individuals who have had only one alcohol or drug related drivers license suspension, prior to July 1, 2003, may attend the Level 1 course. Individuals, who were charged AFTER July 1, 2003, should contact Kiamichi Council prior to registering for the course.

The big topic last week were the local elections and the Supreme Courtâ€™s ruling on health care. Both topics which can make a big difference in our lives.
The local election whittled down the number of Sheriff candidates to two. Terry Duncan and John Arthur. These guys still need your support in the run-off election in August. Donâ€™t neglect to vote. Weâ€™re not done yet.

While the official start of summer is June 20 this year, the Pushmataha County area has already been experiencing elevated heat levels with much more still to come.
The hot days of summer are not something to be taken lightly. According to the Center for Disease Control, more than 500 Americans die from heat-related illnesses each year. By contrast the average mortality rate in the United States from tornadoes, earthquakes and floods together is less than 200.
There are those individuals who suffer in high-level temperatures because they are unable to cool down.
Jane Dunlap, Pushmataha County Clerk, recently achieved Basic Certification for County Clerks. To complete the basic level in the county clerkâ€™s certification program, Dunlap took a minimum of seven courses for a total of 75 hours of instruction. She was honored at the County Clerkâ€™s Annual School held recently in Tulsa.
The OSU Extension Services office in Antlers will begin hosting a series of summer day camps every Tuesday throughout the month of July. The camps will begin at 9:00 a.m. and last until 12-Noon. These camps are open to all children, you do not have to be a 4-H member to attend. The cost is $5.00 per session.
Starting July 3rd: Tom Smith will be doing Science Experiments and Amanda Alford will be doing Summer Boredom Busters.
July 10th: Linda Lou Alexander will be teaching Basket Weaving and Tom Smith will be doing an ATV Safety Training Class.
