Governor Mary Fallin and leaders in both the House and Senate today introduced a joint plan for income tax cuts and tax code simplification. The proposal lowers the top income tax rate from 5.25 percent to 4.8 percent in Fiscal Year 2013 and includes a one-time additional tax cut tied to a revenue growth trigger in FY 2015. If state revenue grows by at least 5 percent in that year, the income tax rate would be reduced further to 4.5 percent.
Governor Mary Fallin recently signed into law House Bill 2388, requiring the state Department of Human Services to screen adults for drug-use who apply to the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program.
If the applicant refuses a drug test or is found to be using drugs, they would be denied benefits.

Have you ever noticed how much opinions can differ, even with people who are supposed to be on the same page? You see this quite a bit in politics and religion. I have a feeling this is due to focusing on technicalities as opposed to the big picture. And I also imagine there are people who would argue that proposition.
A contingency of local republicans for this county attended the Republican Party Convention last week. There was a group in attendance who was very outspoken and I must say quite obnoxious.

As part of an effort to resolve ongoing litigation over water rights among the State of Oklahoma, the Chickasaw Nation, and the Choctaw Nation, a new Task Force was assembled today in order to discuss and consider possible solutions. The Task Force was convened by Court appointed mediator, Francis E. McGovern, and includes 19 geographically, politically and demographically diverse Oklahomans.

We had a couple of very interesting speakers at last Fridayâs Push for a Better America meeting. Jimmy Duncan, Pushmataha County Sheriff, and Mark Rogers, Pushmataha Hospital Administrator.
Jimmy spoke about the duties of the Sheriff. It was very eye opening. Sounds to me like more of a management position. What with budget concerns, personnel concerns, the jail, laws and state mandates, duties for the court, not to mention law breakers and evil doers and everything that entails.

May is here and with it comes exciting times for public schools across our great state. Not only does May mean the end of school is drawing close, but also that many Seniors will be graduating and taking the next step in their lives. What does this next step mean? For many students, they will be preparing for college and for others, they will enter the work force. I want to take a minute to congratulate all Seniors on a job well done and good luck on their future endeavors.
