County Clerk receives Basic Certification

Jane Dunlap, Pushmataha County Clerk, recently achieved Basic Certification for County Clerks. To complete the basic level in the county clerk’s certification program, Dunlap took a minimum of seven courses for a total of 75 hours of instruction. She was honored at the County Clerk’s Annual School held recently in Tulsa.

OSU to kick off Day Camps in July

The OSU Extension Services office in Antlers will begin hosting a series of summer day camps every Tuesday throughout the month of July. The camps will begin at 9:00 a.m. and last until 12-Noon. These camps are open to all children, you do not have to be a 4-H member to attend. The cost is $5.00 per session.

Starting July 3rd: Tom Smith will be doing Science Experiments and Amanda Alford will be doing Summer Boredom Busters.

July 10th: Linda Lou Alexander will be teaching Basket Weaving and Tom Smith will be doing an ATV Safety Training Class.

Girl Scout/ Dove® Self-Esteem Program ‘Uniquely ME!’, comes to Antlers

A recent study by the Girl Scout Research Institute found that girls define their health in holistic terms, and place equal value on emotional and physical well-being. Uniquely ME! The Girl Scout/Dove Self-Esteem Program helps girls feel better about themselves by helping them develop the skills necessary to face life's challenges. The core program curriculum, which integrates the latest research from the Girl Scout Research Institute, consists of activity booklets that guide girls through simple exercises that help them understand and build self-esteem.

Big names now out on DVD

The last few weeks of June bring some much awaited movies to DVD and Blue Ray. Being released the week of June 12th were:

Sherlock Holmes - Game of Shadows: (PG13) Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law return as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson as they try to outwit and bring down their fiercest adversary, Professor Moriarty.

The Assault: (R) On December 24th, 1994, heavily armed terrorists hijack an Air France plane with 227 passengers on board. The Assault shows the claustrophobic onboard drama as SWAT officers try to take back the plane.

Act of Valor: An elite team of Navy Seals embark on a mission to recover a kidnapped CIA agent and uncover a massive terrorist plot. It stars active duty Navy Seals using real weapons and tactics. (R)

John Carter: A Civil War veteran finds himself transplanted on a distant planet inhabited by 12 foot tall barbarians. He escapes capture but meets a princess in desperate need of help. (PG13)

You can tell that we’re getting close to election time by all the political signs and television ads. Personally I’ve never liked political signs but I suppose that they are a necessary evil. Did you ever see one that’s been on a tree for so long that you’ve forgotten who the guy is?

Another thing I don’t care for are TV attack ads. It’s like saying, “I don’t have anything good to tell you about myself so I’ll tell you about my opponent’s shortcomings. Real or imagined.” Come on guys! What are YOU gonna do?
