Webelos Scouts from Cub Scout Pack 396, chartered by First Methodist Church of Antlers, attended Webelos Camp in Pottsboro, TX at Camp James Ray (named for Mr. Rayâ€™s 35 years of scouting service in Idabel, OK).
On Friday, July 1, 2011, during the Picknâ€™ on the Porch event at the Wildlife Heritage Center Museum, the lucky winners of the rod and reel set and tackle box were selected. The proceeds from this raffle will go to help operate the Heritage Center. The winners were: Bryon Hedgecock (pictured), who walked away with a very stylish Batman rod and reel set, and Hardy Dickerson won the tackle box. Dickerson was not available for a photograph.
On Wednesday, June 22, 2011 the Antlers Farmers Market celebrated their official opening with a ribbon cutting. The Farmers Market is located on Main Street in Antlers across from The Convenience Center gas station.
The Farmers Market was brought back to life by the Antlers Farmers Market Association earlier this spring and have been planning and working on the Market ever since. The Farmers Market is open from April 1st until October 31 on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
On Thursday, March 24, 2011 members of the local SWAT (Students Working Against Tobacco) showed their passion for their cause as they set up a demonstration in front of the tobacco section at Pruett's Foods in Antlers. Students were dressed like famous people who have died from tobacco, alcohol and drugs; characters from children's stories, stars who are curently heavy users.and long lost stars. Some of characters depicted were: Cruella DeVille, Walt Disney, Judy Garland and Lindsay Lohan.
Much of the public turned out on Tuesday, March 22, 2011 to hear Congressman Dan Boren speak in a Town Hall meeting that was held at the Kiamichi Technology Center in Antlers at 1:00 p.m. Boren covered topics including the economy, budgets and our countryâ€™s growing deficit.
