4-H Speech & Demonstration Contest winners announced

The Pushmataha County 4-H held its annual Speech and Demonstrations contest on Wednesday, March 14th at the United Methodist Church in Antlers. Seventy one 4-Her’s participated in the contest. New county officers were also voted in.

The new officers are: Kat Bailey, Song Leader, Trey Greer, Game Leader, Tyanna Thurman, Recreational Leader, Will Lewis, Reporter, Tiffany Noel, Treasurer, Lindsay Hedrick, Secretary, Colby Watts, Co Vice-President, Dillon Hembree, Co Vice-President and Brandon Alford, President.

Lady Rams score on and off the court

The basketball court is not the only place the Lady Rams succeeded this season. They’re also doing quite well in the classroom. Rattan’s varsity girls basketball team was recognized as the academic state champions for Class 2A. The ceremony took place on championship Saturday March 10 at State Fair Arena. Rattan boasted a GPA of 3.96 for the first semester. That honor shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, though. The Lady Rams were also named academic state champions for the spring 2011 slow-pitch softball season and 2011 fall fast-pitch season.

Bass Tournament met with near freezing temps

On Saturday, March 10, members of the Pushmataha County Sportsman Club held their first bass tournament of 2012. The tournament was a team tournament held on McGee Creek Lake.

Twenty-nine members competed in the event. Despite less that favorable fishing conditions, with temperatures near freezing at the start of the tournament, nearly all that entered were able to bring checking size fish to the weigh-in.

Rattan Senior FFA wins at Judging contest

The Rattan Jr. and Sr. 4-H teams and the Rattan Sr. FFA team won the Push County Livestock Judging contest Saturday, March 3, 2012. The Sr. FFA team is L to R: Cooper Wood, Cassidy Courtwright, Tandra Nelson and Jamie Williams.
