On Friday and Saturday, April 1st & 2nd, many residents and nonresidents alike turned out for the 2nd Annual Southeast Oklahoma Yard & Garden Expo put on by OSU Extension Services in Antlers.
Venders and presentations varied a little from last years event but the result was the same, everyone who attended had a great time and walked away with a lot of valuable information. Some of the classes that were presented (free of charge) were: “Composting - Better Soil, Less Waste” taught by Beth Pike, Extension Educator, FCS/4-H - Pushmataha County; “Managing Fire Ants” taught by Tom Smith, Extension Educator, Agriculture/ 4-H, CED- Pushmataha County; “Vermiculture - Composting with Earthworms” taught by Dr. Doug Hamilton, Extension Specialist, OSU; “Plasticulture” taught by Micah Anderson
Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food & Forestry; and “Preserving & Storing Vegetables” taught by LaVerda Johnson, Area OSU Extension CNEP Coordinator.
Along with the classes visitors had plenty to keep them busy. Booth selection included everything from flowers, vegetables, seedlings, hanging baskets, dog clothing, handmade birdhouses, lawn and garden tools, yard equipment (lawn mowers and tillers); jewelry and hair bows. Not to mention a booth of information all about 4-H and their many projects.
Once again the Yard and Garden Expo was a big hit and it is now time to start planning for next year’s event. If you didn’t make it out this year, make sure not to miss this informational and goody filled event next go around.
