Area Fire Departments practice fairly new concept

September 1, 2011

The Antlers Fire Department hosted a multi-agency training event at the Pushmataha County Fair Grounds on Monday, August 29. The training began at 7:00 p.m. at the Antlers Fire Department Training Center.

This training was scheduled to provide basic knowledge and instructions on how to successfully draft water from a static water source and move it to a different location.

While doing their training, firefighters utilized a Fire Engine at the Fire Training Center to load water into Tankers, which then transported the water to the fair grounds located on the south side of Antlers. Once at the location, the Tankers dumped their water into portable water tanks (which almost looked like collapsable pools). After dumping the water into the pools, another Fire Engine began pumping the water out of the pool to the fire fighters.

The purpose of this exercise was to allow the local Fire Departments to participate, and practice, a fairly new concept in water supply which is mainly used in rural areas where fire hydrants are not accessible.
