Baxter Dean Matthews

Baxter Dean Matthews was born February 23, 1931, in Powderly, TX, to Jim & Jewell (Spalding) Matthews. He passed from this life February 10, 2013 in Antlers, at the age of 81. Dean served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Patsy Dillingham on August 8, 1954 in Darwin and together they raised two children. Dean enjoyed visiting, gardening (under the direction of his wife), working at Pruett's, and most of all, spending time with his family and playing with Emma. Dean was preceded in death by his parents: Jim & Jewel Matthews; sister: Dora Jane Coggins; brother: Jack Matthews. He is survived by his wife of 57 years: Pat of the home; children: Jack Matthews & wife Pam of Antlers, and Kay Williams & husband Jerry of Howe; grandchildren: Mellissa Sherrer & husband Aaron of Durant, Michael Matthews of Antlers, Danielle Stone & husband Matt of Dallas, TX, and Justin Williams of Caulksville, AR; great-granddaughter: Emma Sherrer of Durant; brothers & sisters: Jimmie Taylor of Paris, Texas, Ann & Billy Perrin of Hugo, Steve & JoAnn Matthews of Jumbo, Tommy & Jackie Jones of Antlers, and Jerry & Buddy Taylor of Moyers; and his God-grandchildren: McKinley & Hayes Payne; as well as many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at Antlers First Baptist Church with Jerry Williams & Reverend Aaron Reed officiating. Pallbearers included Dwight Satterfield, Mike Nabors, George Norman, Mark Virden, Bobby Burgess, & Eric Peters with Honorary Pallbearers as James Phillips, Sam Smith, Sam Hembree, Ed Harper, Boyce Couch, Bob Holley, R.C. Pruett, & The Truth Searchers. Interment followed at Darwin Cemetery. Family and friends may send online condolences at www.millscoffey.com.
